well im now a graduate of Hofstra University so im not around as much, and havent made it to camp.. I know its early but im just wondering how Justin Miller is doing on D... I cant stand him on defense.. so i hope something has chhanged with him..
"The good thing is that the players who are here get extra reps." One of those players has been Justin Miller, whom Mangini praised. "He's been doing a really nice job here early on," Mangini said of Miller, whose legal case involving a fight outside a Manhattan nightclub is still pending.
Maybe Miller will lose the case of StupidAssItis he contracted several years ago. Not likely though. A few years of poor play and dumb penalties have already convinced alot of folks that he'll never been even a mediocre CB.
great athlete, great kick returner, but coverage skills seem lacking. he'd make a big hit on the receiver, but after he'd played too loose and given up a 10 yard reception. if he starts covering guys tighter could be one of the better battles in camp between him, revis and i guess poteat
I'm going to jump in here and say Miller had a very good morning yesterday at TC, from what I saw. I don't think we should quit on Miller just yet. As a KO/Punt returner, he was fielding Nugent's kicks just fine yesterday. Gone are the "dropsies" he had a year ago. As far as the CB position we drafted him for, I really think we need to reserve judgement this year until later. I really want to see if the arrival of Revis does anything to put a fire in his belly. This is one of the huge reasons why we need Revis here, for competition, if for no other reason. I think if Miller is ever going to be pushed, it'll be by this guy. But as far as returns, Miller is still doing well and always has the potential to break one loose and take it to the house.
for example the indy game last year.. when he returned the kick, but also had that stupid pass interference call in the endzone.. i cant believe he was a pro bowler last year.. not deservng of it at all
We also have to remember he just turned 23. Hopefully he shows some signs of maturing into a real NFL CB this season. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I'll give him a little longer to show something.
he was a Pro Bowl kick returner, not CB; there's a difference. i still think it's too early to give up on Miller. i just don't see how you can with the tools he possesses. if he eventually grasps it, he can become one of the better CB's in the league, so just hold up on writing him off for now. cheers
Miller is entering year 3, and came out early-- Cotch didn't show much his first 2 years either did he? The third year is Key. Miller was a mid 2nd round pick as a Junior, and already made the Probowl- (I know, not as a CB) I think if this guy sees 20 defensive plays a game, and continues to return kicks like he has, he's doing more than enough to help this team.
Miller played well today, and is being given every opportunity to prove himself, getting plenty of snaps with the first team in a rotation with Dyson and Barrett. Having said that, I do have to wonder about a guy who claims his role model is Louis Farrakan. Not many marbles in a skull that thinks the suspected guy behind the Malcolm X assasination should be his most respected role model.... but maybe he was just a wee bit naive when he said that in his rookie training camp. In any case, it wasn't the best guy he could have picked for a role model me thinks. I also wish he had been born with hands instead of a basketball hoop when fielding punts....
im waiting until i see Miller's play on the field because i remember he had some glowing reports from last year's training camp. hopefully this year that carries over into the regular season. cheers
cut the kid some slack, he just turned 23 years old. he started just a bunch of games, its not like he's been our starting corner for 2 straight years. i think we should give him at least 2 more years because some guys just need more time to develope. look at asante samuel, or asomougha. and how about cotchery.
