Aug. 1, 2007 Home > The Way We Hear It ~ ~ ~ NY Jets While head coach Eric Mangini has been very vocal in his praise of WR Justin McCareins this offseason, there is a belief that Mangini is trying to pump up McCareins? trade value. Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are clearly established as the team?s top two receivers, and the team plans for second-year WR Brad Smith to become a bigger part of the downfield passing game. Plus, we hear that seventh-round pick Chansi Stuckey has a very good shot at making the team following a solid performance during minicamps and OTAs. Though the Jets have the salary-cap room to live with McCareins? $3.9 million salary this season and haven?t even broached the idea of a contract restructuring with him, we hear that they will showcase McCareins in the preseason in the hopes of enticing a WR-needy team to trade for him. Word is, the Titans, McCareins? former team, are interested. > http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/default.htm?mode=afceast
This doesn't surprise me, but I'd rather stomach the cap hit and see if Brad Smith can TAKE the 3rd WR job from McCareins rather than have it ahnded to him.
I was watching one of Mangini's press conferences, and they asked him if Stuckey was a steal in round 7 due to his solid play in training camp. Mangini had to hold back a mile wide grin. That tells me that Stuckey may have the #3 spot sooner than later. I just hope he stays healthy.
No problem with trading McCareins, but I agree it would be better for someone to take the spot from him.
if we could get a 4th rd pick for jmac then i would def take it. tenn is pretty needy at wr losing VYs favorite target in bennett along with the fact that their wr corps wasnt stellar when he was there. jmac would def improve their situation. i cant help but think that stuckey sticks, and brad smith gets the nod if a 4th is dangled. i like jmac, but hes not going to make or break the offensive schemes. he isnt invaluable.
and ryan, flogging molly has 1 cool song...i was unfortunate enough to buy their cd after a jimmy kimmel appearence....yeesh...
Just keep whoever is best at catching 15 yd passes over the middle. That's who will help the team the most.
There was word the Titans were interested in a draft deal for McCareins too. That obviously didn't happen, so I wonder what they'd consider throwing our way this time.
Don't know if you've ever heard Catch-22 or Streetlight Manifesto. They play SKA punk and virtually all the songs on their albums are great. Check the reviews on Amazon. Here's the albums I recommend: Catch-22 - Keasbey Nights Streetlight Manifesto - Everything went Numb These albums share the same lead singer and song writer Tomas Kalnoky who left Catch to start Streetlight. Great stuff.
Stuckey and Smith are EASILLY better WR's than McCariens is. Both Wright and Frisman Jackson have looked better in camp. This was a trade i liked at the time, but McCariens is a bust.
First of all, McCareins is NOT a bust-- we just gave up too much for him in a stupid trade. Second-- you cannot say that Smith or Stucky is better than him right now. I like your optimistic outlook on those two, but stuckey hasn't stepped foot on the field, and could easilly be another Harry Williams-- (he got good reviews in camp too if you remember) and Smith hasn't shown you enough to be better than McCareins YET. Maybe he takes over the 3rd spot, but that would be a developmental move if he did. Don't hate on McCareins--Coles is #1, and Cotch broke out last year-- we all know what happened 2 years ago.
There have been players I've rooted for, like Williams and Gessner, but this is different. VERY different. Stuckey simply does NOT look like a rookie at all. He makes almost no mistakes at all, he consistantly gets seperation, makes diving catches, runs really good routes and looks to know the entire playbook inside and out. He knows how to find seams in the defense. I've never seen any rookie, ever, (on the Jets in TC) look anywhere near as good as he does. Well, since I liked the McCariens trade when it was made, I'm not going to second guess it... so I call him a bust. I think it would be hypocritical of me to say we gave up too much now, as I liked the trade when it was made.
Coles, Cotchery, McCareins, Smith and Stuckey is a formidable group of WRs. I'm hoping this is our lineup this season.
i seem to hear nothing but good things about wallace wright at WR. any updates on him? might he make the team and contribute this year?
He was a killer on ST in the 2nd half of last year. On every return tackle you felt like you heard either his name of Smith being mentioned.
Smith will develope into our #3 WR this year, and eventually our #1 IMO. The guy has it all - size, speed, hands, athletic ability and BRAINS! This is from Newsday: (in practice yesterday) Brad Smith made three athletic catches as a WR ... McCareins is a good solid guy for #3 or 4. Stucky is a potential contributor. BTW who is the nut who says Frisman Jackson will beat out Smith???
