That would leave us pretty short handed in the CB department no? I heard the Pats picked up a couple good receivers in the off season ...
Interesting. i suppose he can pass a physical, although his leg has been tweaked for most of tc. Barrett and Revis? Havent seen enough of Miller this summer to know if he "gets it" now. That would leave Drew Coleman, Poteat, Hodge(?) in reserve. Pretty thin.
this would make the jets look really dumb. we go out of our way to trade up and draft a corner representing bad depth at the position. you get rid of a vet at LG. now you trade away the only solid CB other than the rookie to patch up the fact you werent willing to pay the previous LG. i liked the fact we got something for kendall that was good damage control. them moving dyson for a LG is practically an admission of mishandling. the only way to make this look good would be to get a pretty good LG not just another stopgap. and for reivs to play lights out this yr despite missing most of camp.
I disagree. Dyson was clearly the best CB last season but maybe the coaches see something in Miller or Barrett or Coleman that says they can be the guy this season. Meanwhile, signing a LG is an admission that Kendall's departure left a gap but that's not the same as admitting they did something dumb. If the Jets get a LG that is better than Kendall (not very hard at all), then they come out of the deal ahead.
: Whistle : : Whistle : Anyonme remember a thread about Hawkins coming to visit the Jets...I doubt he stopped by looking for directions to the Jersey shore. A veteran DB, that Mangini coached. The question is how injured was he that the Pats let him go....
There's not enough depth. If one of the top three CBs gets injured, Poteat and Coleman arent good enough to play regularly. They are nickle backs, not first string CBs.
Agree. CB and WR are the two areas we actually have the depth to trade from. I wounder who they would be after in a trade?? Who has a guard to trade and could use a CB?
Anybody hear anything about Justin McCareins or Brad Smith taking any reps in the defensive backfield? One thing that's pretty clear about Belichik is that he only thinks he needs one good CB back there. The other guy can be just about anybody.
Come on. Poteat started nearly every game last season and he'll be our 4th or 5th CB this season! That's great depth! Drew Coleman looked pretty good except for that one play against the Bears where he slipped. I still don't know why they benched him after that play but he looked solid. To have guys like that on the bench, that's pretty unique. If Miller or Revis get hurt i would feel pretty good about having Barrett out there to replace one of them.
I dont dislike Coleman, but i think he's too small. I guess we could manage with Poteat. I'd rather see them trade a guy like Frisman or one of the TEs.
I don't think Frisman or one of our TE's has nearly the value of Dyson. Fris may not even make the 53 man roster. Our TE's all look decent, but are almost interchangable bit players, no real impact or value at the position. Dyson can be a starting CB for a team in need. Thats if they are willing to part with what the Jets need. Namely O line help. With Dyson we have great CB depth IMHO. Without him we are still good at CB depth wise.
