This years team looks very much like last years team. People forget that when we played the Pats in September they blew us out opening up a 24 to 0lead before they took their foot off the pedal. We also got our doors blown off by a decent but not great Jacksonville team 41 to 0 in week 5.

We lost to two very good football teams and last years team probably gets shut out by the Ravens instead of being right in the game at the end. I think the D showed improvement last week and so did the O. The team is rebuilding and to compare last years team to this one you have to look at more than two games against two outstanding teams. Last years team would have been blown out the first two weeks instead of actually being in the hunt in week 2 against a team that went 13 & 3 last year.

One thing is for sure, there is going to be some major personnel decisions that need to be made next offseason. Shaun Ellis needs to go and Robertson should be moved to DE in this defense. We need a Nose Tackle that can eat up space. Also, unless Vilma shows improvement (he played much better this week) the front office may have to consider trading him and replacing him with Harris. Pennington may also be a goner.

No matter how many times I browse these types of threads, I am still always amazed by the massive amounts of stupidity that runs rampant around here. Its getting old, but I guess its my own fault for coming back each time.

This off season is going to be wheel of fortune. The Jets have a ton of big personal and salary decissions to make and might just be in position to go into FA in a big way.

I wouldn't say we have the suckiest OLine in the NFL. There are worse, Houston, Arizona, Miami, Oakland, Giants, just off the top of my head.

Mangold and Brick are keepers, the problem is the Oline works as a unit. You have to cover for the guy next to you when he misses his assignment (anyone who knows Oline play understands this, which is why I find all the "Brick is a Bust" talk moronic). So you have 2 guys (2nd year players still learning the 2 most difficult positions on the line, mind you) trying to do the job of 5. Bender is a good, raw, young prospect, a year or 2 form starting. Moore is an excellent BACKUP, but shouldn't be starting. They really need a new starting RG, LG, RT, and one more good backup. So the line is about half way there with alot of young talent, which is good long term. But there are a lot worse Olines in the league.

The Dline is another matter. Coleman was a good signing. They need a NT, and Ellis is past is prime. But they are deep, just no one of starting potential really. But once again, there are worse out there.

As for Mangini. Last year, everyone was on the Mangini bandwagon, he could do no wrong. Let's all get some perspective here:

1) The Jets are rebuilding in the truest sense of the word. Herm/Bradway left this team severely depleted talentwise. Not only do Magini/Tanny have to find starters, this team needs depth too. The Jets and CS took everyone by surprise last year, but we are still rebuilding.

2) By the signings and drafts it is clear ownership, the FO, and CS are looking long term (not shelling out huge dollars for overpriced free agents). They want to be annual contenders, like Pitt, NE, Denver, Philly, Seattle, and not one hit wonders. This is something I support, and it takes a few years.

3) Mangini is only in his second year. He is learning as well. But the talent and ability is there, just look at the people he has brought in for his CS, the players he gets, the schemes, philosophy, and the way he runs the organization. The guy knows what he is doing, but he is young and still inexperienced. But that is ok, alot of great coaches started out even younger, Cowher and Madden are 2 just off the top of my head.

We as fans have to step back, take a breath, and look at the big picture. That is just my opinion though. The Jets as an organization are finally headed in the right direction, for the long term, and I am willing to live with a bump in the road this year.

That may have been true for the most irrational of fans, but most fans liked Herm until the playoff loss to Pittsburgh. Part of his problem was he pushed the blame to everyone else on his staff. First we couldn't stop the run because of Ted Cottrell. Then the offense sucked because of Hackett. Donnie Henderson replaces Cottrell and we have one good year, then revert back to being awful on defense. Hackett was replaced by a guy who was supposed to take more chances and the offense was just as conservative and predictable as it was under Hackett.

I gave Herm so many chances, but I'd had enough in the 2005 Baltimore game when he wouldn't let Bollinger attempt a friggin' pass. Enough was enough.

Give Mangini a chance. We lost two games, one to arguably the best team in football and the other to the best defense in football with a QB who made his first start.
