I played for a long time, I pay attention when I watch games, and I try to learn more about the game from people that have played in this league and are way above my head (the radio guys). I'm no expert, I wish I was. I wish I knew as much as Kurt and some others about O-line play. I wish I could understand play-calling terminology when the guys on Sirius start spouting off their jargon... The fact is, if you're a fan that just likes watching the team play, then sobeit. My problem is with those who speak so conclusively about certain aspects of the game, yet can't explain themselves, or think they are explaining themselves but are just making more uninformed claims.
tuds - what complex explanation is required when the fucking defense scores more than the offense and the QB gives the opposition as much as the offense put up? Do you want someone to provide a complex mathematical formula explaining things? You've ignored every logical response in this post so far rebutting your posts. This thread keeps getting better.
It isn't directed at you, or at everyone on this site, but you know as well as I do that there are a ton of people posting on this site, creating 6 threads every Sunday afternoon, that fit that description. I don't know about you, but I am afraid that Philly will put up over 40 against us this Sunday. Maybe the Titans unis will make the player's think they're somone else, a team that can play defense and run-block. No math....and I am talking about the season so far in general, not about one game 5 days ago.
So, hopefully you were listening to Randy Cross last Sunday when the announcers were talking about Chad's completion percentage being second in the league. Then, Randy Cross basically said that completion percentage is meaningless if the QB doesn't put points on the board. Well, Chad didn't put points on the board last week...that is his job...he failed at his job.
Your thread title is "The poll on the front page" and that question is "Who is to blame for the loss against the Giants".
Amen. This thread should be locked since he clearly was drunk or something when he posted. I, like others, don't know where he gets off telling people not to post here. Especially for an OPINION POLL!!!!
Isn't it just as narrow-minded to assume that everybody that voted in that poll are the people that post on this board? The vocal minority are the ones starting these blame-directed threads, trying to one-up each other with stats. It's a team effort and a team loss, but the poll asked for blame and people want a change at QB so, in the most anonymous way of expressing yourself on the internet, they voted for the option that annoys them most.
People don't know football but you're afraid the Eagles are going to put 40 on our D on Sunday. This is a team that has played 4 games put 56 points on the board against Detroit, the worst defense in football and still only averages 21 points a game through 4. The same Eagle team that put up 12 against the Redskins, 13 against Greenbay and 3 against the Giants and you're afraid they will put up 40 against us. You are exactly the type of poster you complain about.
while i normally believe you to be a pretty knowledgable poster, i cant disagree more. pennington was a huge reason that the jets lost that game on sunday. chad, along with schotty were the main culprits. i dont understand how you have a 10 point lead at halftime and dont try to run the ball and control the clock in the second half....instead of doing that, the game was put into chads hands and he didnt do well with it. chads a lame duck QB in my mind. even if he startes the remainder of this season he will not return as the starter next year. his time is just about over in the big apple. his sad attempts to throw the ball are gut wrenching to say the least. and if BS doesnt get his act together in the very near future we will be playing for a draft pick instead of pride. im aghast that everyone in the stadium was waiting on the WRs to turn for the ball and we all jumped the routes collectively. poorly thrown balls and misreads at the line and "not seeing" a LB or CB sitting underneath is getting tiresome. i enjoy chad when he is interviewed, and you cant help but root for the guy because his heart and spirit are unmatched. but we need more than a guy who doesnt get down, we need a guy who can get us downfield. the offense as a whole was largely ineffective on sunday. 14 points came through the defense and ST. it is maddening to sit and watch this stuff unfold. im almost at the point where i cant watch the team on offense because they are getting into the dink and dunks that plagued the paul hackett era.
Dude, look at what Buffalo had done before we played them. I made that comment to exemplify my personal feelings about how this defense has performed.... And by the way, while driving home I heard Jim Miller breaking down the game, and his first comment against us what the defense.
Kowie, I think Chad is competent but has been playing poorly.....I was in disbelief on Sunday as soon as that ball left his hand on the fade....before the INT even happened. The guy has made some horrible decisions last Sunday and they certainly cost the team. So does 9 rushing yards on first down given up by our D. Look at this season so far, Chad has moved the ball. He has screwed up later in the game for the last 2 weeks, but he has moved the ball and been the most effective player on the offense (and Jones against Miami) If a team cannot run the ball, it forces the QB to take more chances, and bad things result. That sounds like a cop-out but it is true and everyone knows it. The one thing that makes me want to see Kellen is that fact that maybe on a play where a WR burns a CB and is wide open down field and Kellen sees him out of the corner of his eye, he can fling it down there. But those opportunities are few and far between, and this is the NFL so it's not that easy all the time. Kowie, I am not trying to say that Chad's performance on Sunday is not a significant contributor to the loss, and I totally agree with you about running the ball....so does everyone on TV and radio. The point is that a defense has to help preserve a lead as well, and when they instead relinquish that lead, the offense, and especially the QB, has to try and force plays. This is why both are to blame. It seems like some people think I started this thread to defend Chad, but I didn't. I started it to make a statement about the vast number of threads that are just as suited for the Bullshit forum as they are for the Jets forum. I believe our D will do this for a while longer, and maybe they will come together a little at the end of the season or after the bye. For this reason, I say let's see Kellen, but to those that want this so badly, do not fucking throw him under the bus like you all were in the first half of the Baltimore game (and we know they will).
i agree the defense has to play better...but my main point is that the offenses poor play and the pass happy play calling is causing our defense to play more. the offense ran 36 pass plays and 25 run plays. they lost the ToP (NYJ) 26:15 to (NYG) 33:45. its not a huge margin, but its still enough to take notice. the defense ends up on the field continually. we had 3 drives of 9 or more plays, of which only 1 resulted in a score (TD). the vagiants had 2 drives of 9 plays and one of 8 plays, all 3 of which resulted in touchdowns. the reason? the play of the QB. eli managed the game better, managed the offense better, and made the throws. the defense had one real lapse, the burress TD...and it was more about dyson losing an individual battle than it was the defense. we arent going to win many games if we dont run the ball. there is no excuse for not running the ball in the second half with a 10 point lead. that falls on the OC...but the play and the ability of our QB to execute is also right up there. chads completion percentage and 'effectiveness' are very burred stats. yes, hes effective at throwing the screen and the 5 yard out. i cant remember him EVER hittin a WR in stride. when he makes a throw they either have to comeback or stop and wait for the ball. and lets not even bring up the fact that our recievers are gonna have to take out life insurance since chads hanging them out to dry on almost any pass attempt that isnt a screen. the defense needs to improve, i dont argue that. but chad deserves way more blame than any other individual. some of the criticism might be unfair, but for the most part its well deserved.
Dude Buffalo scored 17 points against us and 10 of those points were set up by our O. Buffalo scored 25 against Dallas. Our D did not lose the Buffalo game our O did.
Did you even watch the Bills/Cowboys game? Buffalos offense only scored 3 points that whole game. Regardless, can we all just agree that our offense and our defense BOTH suck? Thank you
And had QB's named Troy Aikman, a young Norman Boomer Essiason, and Randall Cunningham/Brad Johnson/Donte Stallworth. I think these guys know what they're talking about. Emmit Smith/Aikman (SB QB) Collingsworth/Boomer (SB QB) Carter/Johnson (SB QB). This assesment of Chad is not new to 2007, this has gone on since 2003. I think they have big time credibility
