Only a moron would accept a managerial position under those conditions for the Tampa Mafia. I guess that means it's 10 to 1 odds for the return of Bobby V. to New York.
One other thing...as a serious Yankee fan for 43 years, I've live through the Horace Clarke years, the Bronx Zoo years, the lean years and the fat years. Right now, I'm so disgusted with Yankee management, I'm ready to bail out. My father will turn in his grave.
youve been a fan for 43 years.....why would you bail because you dont like randy levine or hank steinbrenner.........its time to move on,....theres nothing ese left to do
Nice response and a great way of deflecting but as usual you cannot have an intelligent discussion but rather just insult. Good job!
Oh please. The Bronx Zoo years were so much worse. 3 managers in 1 year????????? then proclaiming Billy as the manager of a future year???? Stop being so dramatic.
After giving it more thought I have decided Mattingly is probably the safest choice for the Yankees if they want to keep their free agents. Not the best choice as manager but I figure he can't do any worse with the pitching staff then Torre did and they will probably make Pena the bench coach and appoint a good pitching coach to help him out. Probably why he is at the top of everybody's list.
Whether he is or isn't, he won't be wearing pinstripes. It's all but sure that the words Steinbrenner spoke to him that made him cry were: "Roger, this is my last year as owner of the Yankees, I want a title more than anything before I retire." It wasn't delivered. And Roger wasn't even around for the exit. -------------- So I caught a headline over someone's shoulder this morning. Looks like Girardi is getting the first interview. Good. He's my first choice. And actually, I'd like to see Mattingly as his bench coach, with Kevin Long remaining the hitting coach, and Pena becoming the third base coach. Then get Mazonne in here and move Gator to the pen.
I was being sarcastic and now I feel bad because you seem like a nice guy. But seriously... I couldn't beleive the hype when the Yankees signed him. Now this is a future hitting machine. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/gallery/10_21_07_pregame?pg=5
No problem on the sarcasm. Roger was a half-mistake. He was paid far too much, however, when the Yankees did it, it was because the pitching staff was decimated. This was at a point where we were lamenting the loss of Carla Pavano, Wang had blisters, Pettitte was on and off the DL, and Hughes wasn't ready yet. The Yankees were putting guys like Tyler Clippard and Chase Wright up against the surging Mets and hot Red Sox. Clemens was a hired gun, meant only to help wait out the storm until the pitching situation could be settled. And it worked. Roger helped. Not to the tune of $20M, but shit happens. That's the big luxury of being the Yankees, you can make a $20M mistake and just deal with the ridicule.
Looks like Mattingly is going to be the choice. I'm good with that. I always liked Donnie, and after meeting him, and him coaching my son for a day, I am pretty confident he can do well with the team. I know there's a lot of people who would rather have Girardi, but Donnie gives us a better chance to get ARod to not opt out, and that's more important than who the manager is. So did anyone hear Jeter? Basically praised "Mr. Torre" as the greatest influence in his adult life. Come on Derek, get over it already. The one positive thing though, he supported Mattingly. Either he is vesting his interest against the best candidate, or he actually feels Donnie can get the job done. Of course, I'm hoping for the latter. Also, I saw yesterday that the manager seems to have nothing to do with Mo's decision whether to return. He put in his contract demands to the team already, and gave them a chance to answer him. That tells me all I need to know about Mo. He's a great guy, a classy person, and he wants to be a Yankee. Now if Posada follows suit, we just might be in good shape next year. One more thing, someone made an interesting suggestion for Mattingly's pitching coach: Al Leiter. That might not be a bad choice. It would just suck that one of my favorite YES announcers would be gone. You'd have to assume Girardi would take a job elsewhere this year too, especially if he gets skipped by the Yankees. That would only leave Paul O'Neil for me to listen to. Oi... I'd still like Mazzone though. Can you imagine what he could do with Hughes and Joba? Not to mention he could probably straighten out Wang. Scary.
No, actually Mel Stottlemeyer signed with the Mariners last I heard. And as far as Bowa, I heard they hired someone else at third base yesterday. Personally, I can't stand Bowa.
alios right. stott went to seattle....and why on earth would bowa want to go to seattle to be a 3rd base coach anyway?
The only reason I could think of was to "stick it", so to speak, to the Yankees for the way Joe was treated. I think it would be stupid of him, but I don't really care, since I don't want him here anyway. Stot bothers me though. He specifically said he wanted to retire when he left the Yankees. Guess not, huh, Mel? Wonder who it was he didn't like working for, Steinbrenner, or Torre.
Mel moved to Seattle after leaving the Yankees so this makes sense for him. And he is bitter about the way he left.
Bowa wants to stay with the Yankees. They hsven't yet offered him a job. He has 3 days to give Seattle an answer. More then wanting to stay with the Yankees, he needs to stay employeed. Not his problem.
So, apparently scumbag Torre wasn't all that honest with the press. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/25/s....html?_r=2&ref=sports&oref=slogin&oref=slogin
