Man, there are so many quotes in this thread I think are crazy. #1. No way a NY Daily News article makes it easier for other teams to trade their picks or harder than us. Honestly, this article looks like common sense more than anything. McFadden is considered the best player in the draft, most people think he's going to drop a little bit, we had no running game last year, and we filled our offensive line and OLB holes, which were our two biggest problems heading into the offseason (besides maybe QB). Someone might trade up to get McFadden, but a Daily News speculative article in March won't be the reason why. #2. Trading up other picks to go from #6 to #3 would cost MORE than just taking a guy at 6. Giving away other picks in a draft for salary reasons is the sign of an inept front office. In fact, I can't think of a front office in the league that would do that. #3. How does the fact that every mock has him going to 6 make it impossible for him to be available at our pick in a million years? That one I can't even understand enough to make a rebuttal.
I agree with the argument of trading the #6 pick... but I see us trading DOWN with it! .... and that would be so nice if either or both Golston and Mcfadden fell to us at 6, so we could have teams below us very interested in trading up to grab them. We need the savings from not drafting sixth, and it would be awesome to get an extra pick or 2 in the first 2 rounds of this draft. I now you will immediately think that where is the savings? if we have to pay extra people, but I think the guaranteed money alone for the sixth pick, could pay off 3 picks in the mid to late first and second rnds.
I'm with 227 - prior to FA I was against taking McFadden. Now, with the best LG in the NFL between our young studs at LT and C and our new big veteran RT I'm all for it... ...we've filled the other holes - DE/Pass Rush with Pace and NT with Jenkins. Now we have no real need - of course I prefer another top CB - but when you can draft a guy like DMC who can be a game changer - you draft him.
Trading up would diversly affect filling some other holes and this clubs progress for 1 or 2 seasons at least wouldn't it? It would be similar to the D-Rob pick. Two first round picks for that guy. DMC is a she-she pick. This draft is loaded with talent. Especially "RB's" and "Big Men" Yes he is a "potential" gamebreaker but every other guy in this draft has "potential". But this is the JETS you never know. But it sounds like something Bradway would do not Tanny. IMHO
I agree that DMAC is game changer....but the HB talent pool is deep in this year's draft. Mendenhall, Felix Jones, and Jonathan Stewart could all be considered as future star HB's in this league....and with less baggage than DMAC. Any one of those 3 alternatives could produce behind the line the jets have put together this offseason.
OF COURSE THEY WOULD. WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY ARE STUPID? Only this site somehow has them going GHOLSTON, which would be ridiculous if MCFADDEN was still out there. If Mcfadden is there at six, it's the biggest layup pick in the history of the draft.
I agree with #28 Martin - drafting the best playmaker at No.6 appears like a layup, but we already have T.Jones. Is it worth it? The Saints were in the same position with Duce and drafted Bush, the best gamebreaker in that class. They went to the NFC Championship, largely because of the Brees trade and getting remarkable steal in 7th round in M. Colston. So basically their best offensive player was drafted after 200. We should go defense or trade down for a big wideout.
2nd tier guys??? ummmm...Felix Jones averaged 8.7 yards per carry. Jonathan Stewart averaged 6.2 YPC...and Mendenhall had a 6.4 average. Darren McFadden averaged 5.6 YPC. Plus McFadden goes down like a tonne of bricks after the first tackle. I like McFadden...but he ain't the only horse in the stable. Quit buying into the hype...and do some research before flushing your toilet.
I think our approach will be to enter the season with an elite defense, an elite special teams and an adequate to good offense. Our special teams should be elite with Washington and Miller returning kickoffs. We're an elite pass rusher and big time corner away from having an elite defense. I think we're definitely taking Gholston and a cornerback with our first two picks.
we wont get him vintage jets lose when need to win big games win when need to lose big games that meaningless week 17 win over the 4-11 chiefs screwed us a star running back for years to come. i am not surprised one bit i saw it coming. nothing new with the jets though let them go draft some fat bust DT
The bottom line is...we have good running backs...Washington is crazy fast, and Jones still managed over a thousand yards behind a subpar O-line last season. If we get McFadden, great....but if we don't....no biggie. I'm more worried about the unknowns on this team...ie: our QB situation. Let's hope Clemens breaks out this year, or we're in serious trouble.
I am printing a retractiion of my earlier statement that the Jets might trade up to the #3 spot. It just popped into my head but I really didn't give it much thought because i didn't have my second cup of coffee yet. I'll say that the Jets are poised to do a number of very good things at #6 and leave it at that. Sorry KOZ and JetFanMack amongst others whom may have thought Hornet lost it.
Ah none of us lost it- we were just repulsed by your statement. Thanks for making everything "good" again...
Ok, I'm going to say what I said in another post. We're signing guys who have so far had one good season and going crazy about it. But you guys are defendting T. Jones when he's had only one good season. I'm very confused about this.
Let's say that the Jets don't have any intention of drafting McFadden if he falls to him, ignoring the fact that it would be a big mistake. By putting this out there it would put more pressure on Dallas, or some other team looking to draft him, to move up ahead of the Jets instead of waiting to trade with the Patriots after McFadden drops to them at #7. This way the Patriots are stuck with the #7 pick and don't have the option of getting Dallas' 2 first rounders. I dunno, just another way of looking at it. I still think it's a no brainer to draft McFadden if he falls into their laps.
