You mean the Vikings who went 8-8? And hell Chester Taylor averaged 5.4 behind that line. Peterson is good, but the Vikings could have gotten to 8-8 without him. And for being the best running back in football Tomlinson his Chargers haven't won a damn thing. People overestimate the importance of running backs, you don't need great ones to win, all the hard work is done by the offensive line.
The problems of the NYJ DO NOT INCLUDE RBs. On the other hand, Gholston will go a long way toward earning a bit of respect for NYJ from those foes he mashes down.
i didnt want to write neither because most threads are about these 2 players,i thought about putting trade down, but i wanted to see who'd they take at no.6
see, i think the jets will take DMC if they get 2 2nd round picks, so they can get Lofton, and Hardy or Flowers, to address WR, LB, and CB.
Yes those teams, do you think they think taking a RB that high was stupid? I don't see how taking the BPA is ever stupid.
WTF is with your post? Trading down is a viable alternative and teams manage to do it every year. Besides I gave an alternative to trading down by listing DRC as an alternative. I think the first round of the draft is fairly deep so our options for trading down look favorable. Pick # 6 could be a nice carrot for other teams considering the players that mught be available in our slot.
to tough for me to decide, for the longest time i was saying mcfadden, but now im leaning towards gholston
I believe both will be gone... thats why I say Neither... but someone will be willing to move up for someone the covet, hense trading down really IS a viable option. Someone mentioned us trading up, which I don't think is a vaible option at all (may be a different thread... but it gave me a giggle).. since we have no 3, we would need to package our 1, 2 and something early day 2 or day 1 next year to move up... or maybe even a player, and no, D-Rob is not an option due to his insane contract. A side note to this... That would give us a wopping 4 players drafted this year, and one before the 4th round... not good!!! We also can't keep coming out of every draft with just 4 or 5 players... you'll never get enough quality depth that way... So, I don't know what the problem is... we'll either trade down, or take the best available player left on the board in the war room at this point... but both will most likely be gone.. JMO though... Ellis
Tough choice. Is there another RB that can produce like McFadden in later rounds ? Yes!!! Is there another OLB that has the talent like Gholston ? No. So I gotta snatch Gholston & can draft another productive RB in later rounds if needed. Jets' need a DE/DT more than any other position & neither Gholston nor McFadden play that position. Hopefully Dorsey is available at #6.
There is a certain amount of observed truth in this. I say, take Gholston if there is a choice. He, IMO, is less of a gamble, and has a high likelihood of contributing big-time right out of box. Plus, technically, for this year, we are really set at runningback. Gholston just brings a greater dynamic to the team.
The point isnt to keep trading down, if you were to do that then you would receive diminishing returns. The point is is that with the 6th overall pick, you have the ammunition to do something such as trade with Dallas for both of their 1st round picks as well as a 3rd or a 4th and a pick next year. I would much rather have the question mark of 2 late first round picks and one, maybe two other picks, then the question mark of just DMC or Gholston. For example, using the Dallas scenario, if we were to get both of their 1sts and their 3rd, and could come away with a combo of either Quentin Groves, James Hardy, or Joe Flacco with the 2 1st round picks, and then use the 3rd round pick on a lineman, I would much rather have THAT then Vernon Gholston.
Does Dallas want to trade up to No. 6? That's a question that people who like to say "trade down" need to find the answer for.
I was using Dallas as an example. I don't know what is in their heads or anyone elses for that matter, including the Jets. I'm speculating on the fact that if I were sitting in Tannenbaums chair, I would be looking for a trade of some sorts. In fact, I'd even rather move to around 15 or so and pick up some team's 1st next year as part of the deal than to stay put and take one of these guys. From what I've seen so far this is a deep draft and more picks is more valuable than 1 pick that nobody is even quite sure will turn out to be that great anyway.
