if we could have kept pennington somehow and gotten rid of clemens ( he is truly worthless, ratliff seems the more ready for the nfl ) our depth at qb for the year would have been much better. instead we have over paid for back-ups at other positions (b.thomas, etc,...)and are one injury to farve from being a cellar dweller.

Because we know little about Ratliff. You would have to agree with that. So we spent a lot of money this year and brought in Favre for nothing if we go by your predictions of Favre.

This basically comes down to who would you rather qb your team THIS year...Favre or Pennington. You, I take it, would prefer Pennington...most others would prefer Favre.

Most honest Jet fans would look at our first 4 games and say 2-2 would be perfect. By the bye week, Favre will be up to speed (one of your concerns). Pennington would be no better then 2-2...agreed?

Lets see what happens after the bye week.

I can't argue with the move, the Jets basically got Favre for free and upgraded the QB position. On a personal level I was disappointed because Chad was a guy I could root for for all the right reasons and I feel like at 32 he still has a lot left. I don't know how old a lot of the Chad bashers are, but 32 is young these days, and the more time that passes from his last surgery (three years now) the stronger he will be if he stays healthy. On the flip side, Favre is a guy I've grown to really dislike and this summer I've become completely sick of him, now he's here. But like I said, you can't argure with the price and considering where we're at as a franchise right now, it was the right move to make.

Regarding Chad to the Dolphins, that adds a further wrinkle I'm not happy about. For one thing it will be impossible to root for him to win, although I do wish him the best on an individual basis. Also, I don't like the prospect of having to face him twice a year, which really comes down to how good a QB you think he is to begin with. Obviously those of us who thought he was good here and would have been good again here think he'll be good there. I do think it's redeeming for him that he was signed in one day for almost the same money he made here by a guy who is regarded as one of the best minds in pro football over the last 25 years. On top of that, you know he'll be out to get us, that's only human nature. Same reason Favre wanted to play in the NFC North when Green Bay didn't want him. I just hope Favre works out here and hangs around a while to make this worthwhile. What else can we do?

i question this move for the mere fact that the dolphins o-line is patch work at this time and Chad need as much time as any Quarter to let plays develop. With the Jets revamped line Chads Play-action would have been revitalized and he would have made better strides this year then last. This inst a good situation for him to be in. Being careful with the ball and Checking down for 3 yard dump offs is one thing but having no line and a team re-building makes for a very difficult beginning.

The funniest thing that routinely happens on this board is when someone posts an obviously sarcastic comment and people misinterpret it and get all bent out of shape about it. (I'm not making fun of anyone because I have been guilty of the same thing myself) I just think it's hilarious when it happens.

Its a conditional pick. If you think the Jets are making the playoffs, then its a 2nd round pick. If the Jets do what the Giants did last year, and the Jets don't even have to win the SB, the pick becomes a first. If he plays 50% of the snaps which we know he will, its a 3rd. So at the least we lose a 3rd rounder.

I agree with this except that the Jets didn't get Favre for nothing. He will cost at least a third, perhaps a second, and in our wildest dreams a first round pick. You may feel that's worth it but it's hardly nothing.

personally, i hope chad is 6-0 against the bills, pats, and two other conference teams which we may battle for a playoff spot.

That's why I said "basically" for free. Draft picks are a crap shoot to begin with, even at the top of the draft, while Favre is a known quantity. If we get far enough for it to be a #1 or a #2 we will have still made out on the deal and the picks would be at or towards the bottom of the round. As much as I was a Pennington fan and I think Favre is overrated, they had to take this deal. I said before it I'd have gone as high as a #2 and I wasn't even sure I wanted them to do it.
