I know earlier in his career he played SS while Erik Coleman held down the FS spot, but the depth chart on nyjets.com says that Rhodes is the FS now... so....what is he? or, if he can play both position well, which one is he better at? I am curious to know because looking ahead we are going to need to get another Safety to play alongside him, I just want to know what kind of Safety we will need.
jets dont really have a set fs and ss.. Rhodes has been playing more free safety this year though... he plays like 30 yards deep
Consider Rhodes is the only starting-caliber Safety on the roster, I think they are lining him up where ever they think he would have the greatest impact.
I would love him to play strong safety and be in the box most of the time. He's amazing against the run and blitzing. For this to happen they would need a real centerfielder type safety to stay back there. We don't have a safety like that currently.
The Jets sceme doesn?t use a SS and a FS. It?s using a right Safety and a left Safety. So Rhodes doesn?t play SS or FS, he plays left Safety.
i think rhodes can play both safety pos...i didnt' want to start a new thread, but has anyone been seeing the great season (quietly) shaun ellis has been putting together 6 sacks. I think he could be a potential probowler, second in the AFC as a DE
Are you serious????? I didn't know that. Wow. Fuck this team. EDIT:: After research he was on the Fins and Jets PS and did not make it. The Packers picked him up and he's now a beast at safety. The new FO/CS do have an eye for talent, but the old one didn't. He was released in 05 with Herm and Company. Bigby's first defensive play was against the Jets on Dec. 3rd too.
Atari was one of my boys that offseason. More for his name than for his play, but he played pretty well for us.
That makes a little more sense either way Rhodes has demonstrated he can play free or strong so thats just leaves it possible to take the best possible safety this next draft.
