Woody: Hey uhh, Marty....I'll tell ya what. I want you to be our coach. That's why I'm going to throw in a life-time supply of band-aids, not to exceed 500 units, of course, along with the base HC salary. And ya know what? Let the company limo give ya a ride home tonight to mull it over with the fam.
Did not Callahan win an SB? How exactly does that align with a diagnosis of a failure as a coach in Oakland? Was Tom Landry a failure because his last year was shitty? Other than that, very good read.
You know Jetfanmack is the writer, right? Great article though. If Cowher's not an option, I'm feeling more and more comfortable going after Spagnuolo.
too many people are jumping on the Martyball train if we don't land Cowher. If Marty gets the job, this franchise will suffer...PSL sales will hit the skids..."boring" football a la Herm Edwards will be the mantra around Floram Park...I couldn't take that... If anything...the coaching candidates should go down like this (in order of importance): 1.Cowher 2.Spagnuolo 3.Jim Schwartz 4.Rex Ryan if the Jets FO can't entice any of those four....we're fucked.
You can probably add Shanahan to the list now too. I don't particularly like him but he is certainly better than and coordinator is.
it would kill me....because that would mean his kid will be calling the plays again next season..no thanks.
I believe that Schotty Jr. just needs some guidance and he'd be fine. He needs someone to force him to commit to the run game, and stop trying to be so fancy. He needs someone to teach him to commit to his own teams strengths WHILE attacking the oppositions weaknesses. Mangini could never do that or help him with that because he simply didn't have the experience. Schotty has called some great games, but also too many stinkers. Because he's called some great games I believe he could become a good coordinator with the right guidance. He also seems to do very well with those scripted drives to start games. If he still fails to learn with the proper guidance, move him back to QB coach. He did well with Brees and Rivers.
I don't see Brian Billick's name anywhere? Guy's got a SB win. Fiery coach, doesn't get along with media too well if what i've been reading is correct, and i don't recall if baltimore ran a 3-4 or a 4-3 under him?
First he's not a defensive coach. He was never able to get an offense going without Robert Smith, Cris Carter, Randy Moss, Randall Cunningham...Never developed a QB at Baltimore. Won a Super Bowl because of a defense built by someone else. Good coach, but is way overrated.
