From PFT: IDZIK TURNED DOWN JETS We're told that Cardinals exec John Idzik recently turned down an opportunity to join the New York Jets. Idzik is a contracts guy in Arizona, and he presumably would have filled the same role in New York, despite the fact that contracts is the specialty of G.M. Mike Tannenbaum. We'd previously reported that the Jets also wanted to hire Ravens pro personnel director George Kokinis, but that the Ravens would not let Kokinis make a lateral move.
Not sure if we really want folks from losing organizations filling critical roles during our rebuilding phase. Kinda like having a contractor show up at your house with DUI tags on his truck...
One Positve about Arizona They do have hot cheerleaders. We need some cheer babes, to cheer us up when we're 1-15 next season.
Yanno Dave, since we ARE moving in a new direction now, WHY NOT get some really hot cheerleaders for the first time in our history? I like that idea!!!
Don't know if you guys saw this by Pete Prisco of cbssportsline.com. It seems to suggest that Jets decided to hire a big-time lawyer and decided not to pursue Idzik, vs. the other way around as PFT suggests. There have been plenty of snickers around the league at Mike Tannenbaum being named New York Jets GM. Tannenbaum is not considered a football guy, which has some real football guys scratching their heads. Tannenbaum did have one important thing going for him in his power play -- yes, that's what it was. He was a good friend of new coach Eric Mangini. That meant something. Now Tannenbaum has the task of dealing with a serious cap issue. "That guy's ambitious," said one league source. "It's not a surprise he pulled a coup. That's his nature." Tannenbaum has made a meteoric rise from intern to general manager. It was only a few years ago that some in the New Orleans Saints organization considered him the coffee boy. This isn't to say Tannenbaum can't get the job done. But once again it's proof that when front office personnel and coaches tell the media they have no business writing things because they don't understand the game, we can point to the abundance of lawyer types now taking over the football side of things. Does law school make someone any more qualified to make football decisions than journalism school? I didn't think so. By the way, the Jets have hired a new senior director of football administration. They planned to talk to John Idzik, the Arizona Cardinals director of football operations, but they canceled when they decided to hire an attorney from a prestigious law firm in Washington D.C.
Er, I think lawyers are a lot smarter and capable than journalists, and by extension, if you can get into law school you are definitely a step above someone in journalism school. Why does this look like a jealous journalist that failed at getting into law school to me?
Yeah, a real "football guy" like Terry (I'll sign Martin thru the end of 2009) Bradway really put us in a great cap situation, didn't he?
