According to a "source," the Star Ledger says the Jets are looking at adding a FB. Supposedly they're considering Mike Tolbert, Marcel Reece and Patrick DiMarco, as well as taking a FB in the draft instead. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2017/03/source_jets_putting_emphasis_on_run_game_this_offs.html I haven't been a fan of having a FB the last couple of years, as it's too old school, but I guess the good thing would be that it would show that the Jets are going to put an emphasis on the rushing attack and could signal that they're going to draft Fournette or Cook at #6. Reece is 31, but I think pretty good. Tolbert is 31 as well and is pretty good. IMO both are undesirable because of their age. DiMarco is 27, but I have no idea if he's any good. What are your thoughts?
It doesn't hurt to carry an extra player that can add another dimension to the team that is otherwise unavailable. Fullback isn't really in anymore, but there are still situations where they are useful. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
One of the biggest draft blunders in recent years (and there have been many) is John Conner (the terminator) by Rex, 2010 in the 5th round (and he moved up to do it!!!!!) No to drafting a FB. They can be had in free agency.
I think they could address this later in the draft or even as an undrafted rookie. Here's a kid Sam Rogers from V-Tech. Can block and catch. Very Hard worker. http://draftbreakdown.com/video/sam-rogers-vs-boston-college-2016/
Yes, that's worked real well for the Jets in the past hasn't it? Here's the problem with relying on the run game as opposed to having a balanced attack: what happens in the 4th Q when you're behind by 2 scores? Now you're forced to go to the weaker part of your offense. To make matters worse, your opponent knows this and will concentrate on stopping the pass, not caring if you gain a few yards on the ground eating up the clock, playing right into their hands. The days of "three yards and a cloud of dust" are long gone in the NFL. That's why many of us have been clamoring for the Jets to take the QB position more seriously.
I agree with you on balance. Name one Jets playoff team that didn't have a great ground attack .... Our best teams have always been effective running the ball. In clamoring for your golden boy qb to save us we have let balance fall to wayside. The oline is a patchwork that badly needs youth movement... and if we are ever going to find an effective passer we need to able to protect them; and we need to be able to run the ball.
I like Tolbert, but I think he's a bit too old for what the Jets want to do. I'm thinking they go UFA for FB. No need to break the bank on a full back.
They should get a decent FB- via free agency or a late round pick. The only shot the Jets can be at least respectable on the offense side of the ball is with a full blown run attack. Hopefully, we can grab a LT as well.
I would to see the Jets add a FB. I think it's been a blatantly missing cog for some time now. I loved how dynamic Tony Richardson made our offense......
I'd like the Jets to add a FB depending on who they draft at RB. If they select one of the bigger RBs in this draft (Fournette, Conner, Foreman, etc.), then it makes sense to add a FB.
Thanks. I was hoping that some of you would post info on FBs in the draft. I'm not keen on any of the FAs. I doubt we'd be able to replicate the luck we had with Tony Richardson.
Good FB's can be found in later rounds. They come cheap and full of spirit. That makes more sense then picking up one of the 3 mentioned (Tolbert, Demarco and Reese). We need to beef up the OLine and get a corner early in the draft. Safety and an edge rusher are in the mix. A combination of BAP and need will determine the draft. Hope they can trade down if the player at 6 isn't who they really want. Wait and see and hope for the best at remaking the team.
I personally thought KOB sucked after his first couple years. His average yards per attempt got ridiculously low as I recall. Certainly didn't make anyone better on the team. IMO.
