This is the latest I have been able to gather on the AROD saga. He feels bad that he opted out and wants to make it up to the Yankees. He says he might give the Yankees back 30,000,000. What does this mean? If the Angels or Mets offer him, lets say 270,000,000 for nine years with NO opt out. He then goes back to the Yankees and says you can have me for nine years at 240,000,000. THAT MAKES NO SENSE TO AROD, DOES IT? I can't see Boras signing off on that.
Yeah, that's what it means. I'm surprised at your surprise in this. It was talked about many times that this could happen. I still think, at this point, the Yankees say "no thanks". Besides how much money does one baseball player need? Oh, and Boras can absolutely be fired. I read that on the weekend.
My point is. Why would AROD even consider that? For a guy that always goes where the money is - THATS STUPID. And, come on Don, you really think Boras can be fired? AROD will have a lawsuit so far up his ass, he is going to think Cynthia has gone wild.
Why do you always capitalize the entire thing? Every time I see "AROD" I want to stab a kitten in the eye. EDIT- I'm not sure why it bothers me so much.
It should be pointed out that all marquis free agents seem delusional until one team does something really, really dumb, validating the delusions of said free agents (see Zito, Barry).
well to be honest, what does 30 mill matter to Arod? he already has more money than god, and after a 240 million dollar deal, he will have more money than all of the gods on earth combined. arod can't possibly spend that much money while playing 162+ games a season
There was mention of it in a NY Times article..who knows. I think half these columnists make this crap up as they go anyway. It makes sense though. Sure he would owe him for any work he has done in the last week since he opted out but at this point all Boras is to him is a lawyer. Lawyers can't own their clients. If he still had a contract he would owe him whatever he owed him under that contract but he doesn't.
It's only stupid if you disbelieve what I've been saying all along actually. As I've said all along, ARod was more than likely convinced by Boras that it was in his best interest to opt out because there was no way the Yankees would ever let him walk, no matter the terms. If George were still in charge, maybe. However, we have a new sheriff or two in town, and they had to flex their muscles and stand firm. That's the monkey wrench. As I've said a thousand times, and everyone beats me up for it every single time, ARod is not in it to make half a billion dollars exclusively. He wants to win a title, and he wants to be loved by the fanbase. He knows his role with the Yankees, and there is a legit shot at a title if he returns. He knows he's going to make a ridiculous amount of money, no matter where he lands. In the end, he wants to be where 1) he's comfortable, and 2) he has a shot at the World Series win. If he has to sacrifice $30M while walking away with more than a quarter billion, coupled with the opportunity to be where he wants to be, I doubt he's going to lose much sleep.
I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. At this point he will be hated everywhere he shows up. (hmm...more so then in the past)
I agree with most of this, but would add a couple of things that maybe you haven't considered... 1. I'm sure the Yankees are pissed about A-Rod opting out, because Texas was covering some of his salary. Now that is voided, so if they DID want him back, it will be a lot more out of pocket expense. I'm sure that makes them unhappy, as a matter of principle, if nothing else. 2. A-Rod wants to be "the man", the face of the franchise, the hero. He will never be that in New York. Jeter is "the man", and A-Rod is just a sidekick.
What about it? It's not the capital letters that bother me, it's the incorrect capitalization that bothers me. Arod is a name, not an acronym. Only the first letter should be capitalized, unless, like in my sig, it's being done for emphasis.
I've considered both points, but didn't bother to discuss them here again. Yes, you are absolutely right, the Yankees are very pissed off that they've lost that extra cash. Especially when they were willing to take on a ridiculous amount in the near future on top of it. The point about being "the man" I think is more blown up than reality. Of course he wants to be cheered, and he wants the fans to love him. I think though, this season showed him, if he hits like he's capable, he'll get all the love he desires. Don't forget, about midway through the season ESPN was going on and on every day about how the Yankees were quickly becoming ARod's team, rather than Jeter's. Who knows though? The fact is, I go by what the man has said, and what I see to be his actions. So far, he has yet to speak publicly, so I have to believe a lot of the lip service being paid is Boras' big mouth. Based on the things Alex has said in the past, he is far more concerned with winning a ring than the HR title, MVP awards, and money. I take the man's word for it, until he shows himself to be a liar, which I've personally never witnessed with my eyes or ears.
Well, this is good as far as I'm concerned. He would never be much good in NY. "Manager Terry Francona wants Mike Lowell to remain with Boston. So does re-signed pitcher Curt Schilling, who's used his personal blog to stump for the World Series MVP's return. The one ally Lowell needs in his corner is Theo Epstein. No worries there. Epstein is busy at the general managers' meetings in Orlando, Fla., trying to make it happen." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3098528 The problem is I don't want Crede either. That's a total waste of money and we would have to give up a player on top of it. I'm hoping it makes something happen on the Arod front or he will end up in LA. Cabrerra is great but like I said before. if we get him we have nothing to try and get Santana with if he becomes available.
