Even last year people were wondering what would happen with Bonds in 2008, and as of now, the answer has been nothing.

But this could change soon. I'm sure most of you heard Gammons reporting that the Sox had "internal" discussions about the possibility of signing Bonds, and I doubt that they are the only team to do so. World class jerk? Absolutely. Proven juicer? Check. The only player in the MLB carrying both stigmas? No.

So what does TGG think? Will Bonds end up playing on an MLB team (if so, where) and would you want him on your team?

Keep in mind, he posted an OPS + of 170 as a 42 year old last year. Better than A-Rod.

Every now and then it becomes possible for a fan to be able to see if winning is really the only thing that matters to them, and this is one of those times. The situation for the Mets in the OF is obviously awful with Alou out forever and Church out for who-knows-what. There are purely baseball reasons for not going for Bonds - he is a joke in the OF, his numbers last year were inflated by all of the walks (he simply wasn't good enough last year to warrant walking in 1/3 of his plate appearances; I will acknowledge that his numbers were still quite good), and there's no way of knowing if he can still hit. He would also bring loads of negative attention to any team he signs with.

None of that is the point for me personally. When I watch a team I want to be able to root for them. Seeing Bonds in a Mets uniform would make me want to retch. I would much rather they not make the postseason at all than to make it with that walking pile of turd on the team.

I can't stand Bonds the cheater.

But as a lefty DH in Yankee Stadium? Yeah, I could overlook my disgust. Though I'd rather a healthy Matsui, given the choice.

Outside of him being an asshole, I have no reason to hate on him.

Id like to see him in LF with the Mets.

yes....but his bat would likely do more then make up for it. I dont know if I could ever bring myself to root for Bonds if he were in pinstripes..

If Ortiz is out for the year, I hope the Red Sox sign him. If Ortiz comes back right after the break as expected, there's no room for him.

If there's one thing the Yankees do best, it's pro-rated midseason contracts for geriatric, universally-loathed, misanthropic steroid abusers.
