Folks, we have ourselves a playmaker. Brad Smith has "it." Great downfield block by D'Brick to spring Smith free for the TD.
Imagine what a factor he could be once he actually learns the position. Add some technique to that raw talent and we should have ourselves a helluva player.
I'll give credit to Green Hurricane for coming up with the term, but the kid really does have gameskills. Regardless of him never playing receiver, he obviously picks things up fast and is an awesome athlete to boot. That wasn't the only good play he had.
I had no idea that was Brick who threw the last block to spring Smith...great job by the rookies tonight.
Brad Smith, E Smith, Schlegel and Newhouse are the playmakers of the future on this team.... they will be fun to watch. Clemens too.
Except for big hits and Ints, most CB's do look badin the preseason. DC's don't want to show off any special coverage schemes, so they play vanilla cover 3/ man off type coverages that don't give secondaries much of a chance.
Schlegel didn't look too good in the game. He was awfully stiff in pass coverage. I know he was drafted for his run stuffing abilities, but whatever happened to the linebackers being versatile? He's still a rookie and has time to improve, but he has yet to impress.
i was there tonight and that reverse was electric. this kid is gonna be a beast. next randle el but with more ability....
It's a little early to be saying this, but thus far, I have to say that these guys might be the best rookie class I've seen since 2000.
I kind of feel sorry for the guy who got plowed by a 312 OLineman...Damn DBrick layed him out nasty!!
To be honest, I thought the best blocks were thrown early on in that passage of play, that's on a technical level. It's much harder to block a player when you are running the same direction as him: it's much easier if you are coming at different angles to the players you were trying to block, as Brick was. I'm not down on Brick: he has been sensational for a rookie, and to me is the best player the Jets could have picked in this draft (even if the Jets could have picked the 3 players above Brick in the draft he was and is the best fit for our organisation), how he managed to get downfield shows his great athleticism, but he was coming from the blindside to those guys he laid out, and I thought Brad Smith might have out ran them anyway. In other words I think, beyond the highlight reels, it was the earlier blocks that set that play up: Bricks double block was icing on the cake.
I like how Buttle said after the play was over that this could lead to other things, like a pass something Antwaan Randle-El did while with Pitt.
it's no offense to the other players or positions, but I believe it's harder to come into the nfl as a rookie and step right into LB or Safety, they are the two leaders of defense. Each position entails adjusting to the offense pre-snap and making good reads. Also the Qb position is well-known to be difficult to step in and perfrom, but Clemens has done well.
