From the home site.... http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show/2088-clement-released-woolfolk-signed The New York Jets have released T Anthony Clement and signed free agent CB Andre Woolfolk. The announcements were made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum. Clement, a 10-year NFL veteran, originally signed with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent on April 19, 2006. In two seasons, he started all 33 games he played at right tackle, including one postseason contest in 2006. For his career he has played in 128 games with 108 starts.Woolfolk (6'2", 197), who was selected in the first round (28th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma by Tennessee, joins the Jets after being out of football in 2007. In four seasons with the Titans, Woolfolk played in 39 games and made 11 starts. He totaled 94 tackles, three interceptions, 18 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Actually, i'm a little surprised they cut him. You'd think he would just drop down to backup status, and one of the backups would have been told "see ya". Why keep a guy who Clement beat out for the starting position, and cut AC? Not that it's a great loss or anything.
I remember Woolfolk was highly touted out of college, could be a good pick up, apparently he is this seasons Andre Wadsworth...
Maybe cap reasons. Or perhaps they are still planning on drafting an OL high in the draft. Maybe dropping Moore to a backup role? They still have Montgomery and Bender as backups. After signing Faneca and Woody, they have options now. But I don't care, Clement was a horrible run blocker. Glad to see him go. Time to upgrade the Oline, even its depth positions.
From august 2007: Titans placed CB Andre Woolfolk on injured reserve, ending his season. Tough blow for Woolfolk, a former first-round pick who is in a contract year, although he may not have made the Titans because of their improved depth in the secondary. He'll likely seek out an injury settlement later on. He has had problems with his ankle in 2006.
Could be a cap issue. I forgot about Montgomery being here. And as i said in a post yesterday, if Bender really has the talent to play in the NFL, Woody and Faneca should be very helpful in his development.
Goodbye to Clement -- he probably thinks he can start someplace else and doesn't want to back up. In any case, there are a few young OL on the NYJ that need development. And A Strength Coach. This will get them more attention. I also have a sneaking suspicion that Mr. Callahan has been very busy since his appointment.

That actuslly sounds like good news. I don't know much about the guy, but if he was once a 1st rounder he must have some skill. Pretty big Dude for a CB
I have a sneaking suspicion that your sneaking suspicion is correct. BC will be a moving force behind the scenes and have a big impact on next season.
he was only making slightly more than the veterans minimum (rotoworld), so it's not a cap move. My guess is they're sending a message to the rest of the team to never suck that bad or they'll be cut instantly. </sarcasm>
Woolfork must know of his limitations according to this scouting report. Wonder what he (and the NYJ) can do about them...? It's an example of whether or not 'coaching up' has its merits or not over the course of a season. The guy was used to being the man, being taken 28th in the draft out of OU. He's got to have some pride. The TItans looked as if they were 'stockpiling' him on IR -- I mean he goes on IR with a hamstring in August? There's more here than meets the stat book...
