I thought they would grab Ginn, maybe not... Rams trade for kick returner Dante Hall By Jim Thomas ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH 04/25/2007 In a move to solve their kick-return problems, the Rams have traded a fifth-round draft pick to Kansas City for Dante Hall. Hall, 28, is a two-time Pro Bowler who has returned 11 punts and kickoffs for touchdowns in his NFL career. The trade probably takes the Rams out of the running for Ohio State's Ted Ginn Jr. in the draft, to be held this weekend. ?We have filled a need with one of the top players in football at his specialty, returning punts and kicks,? Rams coach Scott Linehan said in a statement. ?Dante will fit in nicely on our special teams and can be utilized as a receiver in certain situations.? Hall's gaudy numbers have tapered off off since his peak season in 2003, when he averaged 25.9 yards per kickoff return (2 for TDs) and 16.3 yards per punt return (with 2 TDs). In 2006, his seventh NFL season, he averaged 22.8 yards for 53 kickoff returns and 8.9 yards for 27 punt returns, one for a touchdown. He also caught 26 passes, two for TDs. Rams fans probably remember a game at Arrowhead Stadium in December 2002, when Hall returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and added an 86-yard punt retuyrn for a score in Kansas City's 49-10 victory. Hall is third in NFL history with 11 kick returns for touchdowns, behind Brian MItchell (13) and Eric Metcalf (12). He has a career average of 24.0 yards for 360 kickoff returns and 10.0 yards for 188 punt returns -- all with the Chiefs. Hall, who is 5-foot-8 and 187 pounds, has three KO returns of 97 yards or longer and two punt returns longer than 90 yards.
He slowed down a lot the past two years but a fifth may have been worth it. He can still be a spot receiver. I hope this isn't "the" big pre-draft deal of the week.
This is a smarter move than taking Ginn in round 1. They really don't need a receiver after signing Bennett (& McMichael) and just needed a returner, so taking a #4 reciever with the 12th pick, just for return skills would've made no sense.
Is Herm the GM now? I must have missed that press conference. Hall's prodiction has dropped off big time. As a KR he would break one occasionally but he never had a great average but now he doesn't break any and his avreage stinks. He was great as a PR but last year averaged 8.9 per and the year before 6.6. He's not a great return man anymore.
Did I say Herm was the GM? All I know is, I've been reading alot of stuff about the Chiefs players not liking him...and with the Larry Johnson trade rumors appearing, it looks like HERM is destroying his team by getting rid of his veteran QB, one of the best return men in the game, and maybe his workhorse running back. Herm likes Damon Huard alot more than Trent Green...we'll see how that works out for them.
Good trade by the Rams. Hall could recover a lot of his prime value indoors on that turf. 7-1 at home would make them a playoff team.
I think this was a good trade for the Chiefs. Might as well sell high on Dante now, while people still remember when he threatened to break the single-season kickoff return TD record. Since that first half of a season, I think coaches around the league figured something out about him because he never did anything worthwhile again.
dante hall is terrible and easily replaceable...i didnt think the chiefs would get anything for him and would end up cutting him....so good deal for them here is a nice quote from PFT "Rams kick returner Willie Ponder had a higher per-return average in 2006 than Hall." they also swapped 3rd rd picks (82/84) in the deal
Good trade for the Chiefs. If you watched Chiefs games the past three seasons, you know why I wrote this.
Again, he's not the GM and if he was responsible for these players leaving what exactly would he be destroying? The Chiefs haven't won a playoff game since 1993 it's not like he's breaking up a dynasty. They re getting old and need to be re-tooled. What they NEED to do is get a new GM as Carl Peterson is a horrible GM. They might be getting rid of their QB who is 38 I believe and was terrible last year, that return man hasn't been good in about 3 years and LJ is a whiner who they are just exploring options w/ him. I don't see any problems w/ exploring options and obviously getting rid of Green and hall are not big deals.
I do hope Green goes to Miami and I'm pretty confident he will. I just don't know why Miami would want him when they haven't a decent QB since Marino retired. Culpepper may have worked out but got injured, Green had some great years but also got injured. It's not the same regime in Miami(it keeps changing) so how is it they are braindead when it comes to finding a QB?
Culpepper was never great in Minny despite some great fantasy years, he could never win enough in a weak division and conference. Green has never won a playoff game despite playing on some talented teams, I think as long as Miami doesn't give up a high pick(I hope they do) that they could get Green and draft a QB and have Green play until the drafted QB is ready. That is the only way a green deal makes sense. Huizenga must be involved somehow, despite the regime changes they have given up 2 1st rounders for Ricky Williams, a 2nd for AJ feeley and Daunte Culpepper and a 3 for Lamar Gordon. That's as bad as it gets, I hope they ca add a 2nd rd pick for Trent Green soon.
I read this morining that the KC equipment manager has already shipped Green's pads to Miami. Why I even read that, I don't know. Why anybody even wrote it, I don't know. But they did and I did. I guess that means something is imminent.
Green behind the Fins current o-line is no threat at all. 50/50 he doesn't make it through the season if he does go to Miami.
I don't agree only because Holt and especially Bruce are pretty long in the tooth, and I think Ginn can be pretty special. He could have been their returner and get in on a few plays this year learning the nuances of the game from a soon to be retired HOF wideout....
