Who you got? I’m betting that we just name Chris Harris as our formal DC and remove the interim tag going forward. I don’t think anyone is coming here given Glenn’s status on the hot seat. No chance on Morris imo, I think he’ll sit out a year. Martindale will have better options, and I can’t see any potential first time DC prospect starting his career here under Glenn. So yea, Chris Harris is who I think they’ll just formally name for 2026 as DC. What do you guys think?
Glenn should just call plays going forward. No more "Wilks system" or someone else. He is on borrowed time, might as well make himself useful. Seattle and Houston coaches do it, and they are just fine. Campbell, his mentor is calling plays on offense. Time to step up or shut up. Sure, keep Chris as a DC, but no more "Wilks or someone else's system". Your system, you call it, don't blame another system later. Later on if it succeeds you can transition to someone else.
He’s never been a DC, and I suspect given his next job might be his last he’s probably going to want a more stable environment than here. And honestly, is he any better than Harris?
I also think he should keep Harris and call the defensive plays himself, he should have some responsibility for how things went last year. Glenn needs to run HIS defensive scheme so he can't just scapegoat the next DC since he refuses to have a hand in it (even when that side of the ball is supposedly his bread and butter).
Dallas fired Eberfluz which means if there is a DC worth a shit he'll be going there. My guess is he removed the interim from Harris and then he blames Harris when the Defense breaks their own 2025 records.
Glenn wants a DC that runs what he ran in Detroit, and that sounds like a perfect fit for Wink Martindale should he want it. The aggressive blitzing and compatibility sounds like Raheem Morris but he doesn't play man. Zack Rosenblatt @ZackBlatt Aaron Glenn said it's important that he has "synergy" with the new defensive coordinator. Said they'll interview a number of candidates. Also used the word "compatibility." Nick Faria @Nick_Faria1720 Aaron Glenn on what he's looking for in a potential new defensive coordinator: "I like to be aggressive...I want to make sure the guy we do have, there's a lot of synergy between us. There will be a number of coaches we take a look at." Says Darren Mougey will be part of those conversations.
It’s cute hearing Glenn talking about his needs. Martindale isn’t coming here to get fired in a year.
NO ONE is coming here. Not that's worth 2 shits, that's for sure. Look for Harris to have the "interim" dropped. Seeing as he's already here, wouldn't he qualify as Glenn's brand of football?
This is the fatal flaw in Woody's Org. Chart. Glenn shouldn't be including Mougey as an afterthought. Mougey should be including Glenn. This dual reporting structure to Woody works other places, but we're talking Woody (I need my ego stroked as often as possible) Johnson here. Twenty some odd years and this dual reporting shit has not worked once. Yet this idiot continues thinking one day he'll strike gold when the sad fact is, he hasn't even found pyrite.
Al Harris is the guy. Posted this a month ago so don’t feel like retyping it out. Leonhard would be great too.
I guess he said that? He has been broadcasting since the day he retired. I can't find evidence he has any interest in coaching by looking at his career path.
I’m on this page too. I also mentioned Leonhard a while ago as a guy I wanted over Wilks. Harris is legit too and hopefully there’s some kind of link. Moug and Leonhard must have crossed paths in Denver so there’s a link there at least
I don't know if legit guys would want to come here though. I wish someone would have asked at the presser if Glenn is considering he might call the plays himself. He should do it. He is just standing there anyway doing nothing. At the presser he mentioned that Wilks ran the same system he ran with 49ers, and he now want synergy. What better synergy than do it yourself? He did have 1 good year in Detroit defensively. At least there is a very small probability he can recreate that if he calls the plays himself and runs his own system. As small as it is, Glenn calling plays and being a de facto DC may be the best hope we have not to be completely incompetent. I highly doubt a hot DC candidate like Leonhard is coming in here. Unless Mooge maybe convinces him? Still unlikely. Just call the plays yourself instead of standing there all game.
Zack Rosenblatt said on his podcast that there’s mutual interest between the Jets and Wink Martindale. There’s a whole lot of smoke there. He’d be a fantastic hire, his defenses fly around and they’re aggressive. Blitz heavy, exotic looks, man coverage… sounds a lot like what Glenn said he’d look for. Once again important to remember that your opinion of Aaron Glenn doesn’t match up with actual NFL players and coaches’ opinions of Aaron Glenn.
I don’t think it’s all that abnormal for a coach to be involved in hiring his own defensive coordinator… I feel like it’s the coach usually leading the charge when it comes to building a staff. But in general I agree with the dual reporting structure thing.
Idk how you can post daily hatred about Aaron Glenn’s ability to coach, but then at the same time suggest he should call plays himself He should not be calling plays
