THAT are disillusioned that the Jets should get this prized ransom for John Abraham, remember two facts:

    1) The Jets are way over the cap and can't afford to re-sign Abraham and the rest of the league knows that.

    2) Abraham wants out and no part of being a Jet and the rest of the league knows it.

You don't get premium price for 1 and 2 above.

I have a feeling we're going to end up setting for a second rounder for Abe.

We know. These are not expectation but hopes. we are aware of his history with the team but we also know of his capabilities/potential. We would just all like his worth.

    1) The Jets do not have to sign Abraham. He has a franchise tag on him, and they do need to account for his 8.3M on the cap, so technically, they can afford him.

    2) This one does hurt, but the Jets can just say tough sh.. you have no choice if they wish.

    yes.

if he signs it, he's playing, whether or not he reports to camp. he won't and can't afford to just sit out for a season. then he'll never get the contract he desperately covets.

if a team wants him bad enough, they'll give something up for him because they know he can be on our roster next season per the franchise tag, despite any ill will or animosity towards the organization.

    cheers

I just posted this in the other thread but think about it Denver sees the missing link in maybe getting over that next hump to get to the Superbowl with this guy. He will get a 1st...

The only reason why ABE is bitching is we are kinda giving him the goat roap.
Last year we mentioned him getting a long term deal. Now with the shuffle at the top of management we are not. I think he deserves to get paid not sure about the whole 20mil ballpark. This guy is a beast if he plays and unfortunately I think if he goes to Denver that Defense will be ridiculous.Look at what Denver did last year by totally revamping there Defensive line taking 4 from the Browns (VERY BIG UNDERACHIEVERS) Gerald Warren and Courtney Brown. There D was lacking in Sacks and the Pass Rush but was lights out against the Run. Abe brings that one dimensional pass rush they need. I just hope we trade him to get a 1st rounder...even though thoes shoes will be hard to fill in the draft...

Abe is the best DE available this offseason period. If a team wants the best they will have to meet some of our demands. Because Abe is not a UFA we have leverage.

Here's the way I see it:

    1) The Jets won't be "way over the cap" as soon as Pennington's contract gets restructured and signed, which will happen some time late tomorrow, IMO. That alleviates #1.

    2) Many players on the trading block "want out," there's nothing unusual about Abraham wanting the same. I don't see this as a major hindrance to negotiating a 1st round pick.

Abraham played well, really well in all 16 games last year. He came into camp in great shape on the last day after holding out all summer and demonstrated that he was able to condition himself in spite of not attending formal TC.

He remained injury-free all season and had no major or minor personal issues on or off the field. I see all this as positive and we should accept nothing less than a 1st Round pick for him, IMO.

Yea but you do get a preium price when you have control of him and more than one team wants to go for him. Denver and Wash, or whoever was said to be interested wioll fight over him.

Its not a matter of if the Jets will accept, its a matter of if Abraham will accept their offer, which they must make better than the other teams
