The most striking difference between the old regime and the new regime was on display just a few minutes ago. Herm would be running the ball to quickly eat up the clock. Mangini goes for the kill shot with the deep pass and the reverse. Perhaps the days of playing not to lose are over. Now punch it in and end this puppy.

While I love the coaching job done today in general, I couldn't understand why they kept feeding the ball to Blaylock near the end of the game. He hasn't done anything all game, and they keep sending him into the mess. It's practically just giving up the down. I would've much rather prefered seeing Barlow in there, who shows he can be a physical back. At least he might be able to make a little something out of nothing.

You can't completely abandon the running game no matter how ineffective it is.

They did a brilliant job of working it in to keep Tenn. guessing.

Throwing the deep ball with a lead is so reminicent of the Patriots. It is actually the attribute in that team that I found most impressive. When you have a team on the ground, put your foot on the throat and never let them up. While we aren't good enough yet to be in a position to do that regularly, it was a good sign for the future.

i likd that we didn't settle for FGs at the end of the half and the end of the game BUT after we were up 16-0 we tried to run out the clock. if we stayed in our reg O the game never gets close even w/ the Nugent blunders. Overall I liked what I saw but I didn't like trying to run the clock out too early.

Agreed...except for kicking the field goal from the 1-yard line instead of going for the TD. I figured against that defense they could get one yard and the TD.

It's unfortunate that the drive I was referring to in this message ended with a Brien...errr Nugent...missed FG. This was the scenario and sequence:

3:04 remaining in the 3rd quarter
    Jets leading 16-0

    1-10-NYJ20 (3:04) K.Barlow left end to NYJ 31 for 11 yards
    1-10-NYJ31 (2:24) C.Pennington pass short right to L.Coles to NYJ 38 for 7 yards
    2-3-NYJ38 (1:51) K.Barlow up the middle to NYJ 37 for -1 yards
3-4-NYJ37 (1:14) (Shotgun) C.Pennington pass incomplete short right to J.Cotchery
PENALTY on TEN-R.Hill, Defensive Pass Interference, 6 yards, enforced at NYJ 37 - No Play
1-10-NYJ43 (1:10) C.Pennington pass deep left to L.Coles ran ob at TEN 16 for 41 yards
    1-10-TEN16 :)32) B.Smith right end to TEN 4 for 12 yards
    Fourth Quarter
    1-4-TEN4 (15:00) K.Barlow right guard to TEN 2 for 2 yards
    2-2-TEN2 (14:33) C.Pennington pass incomplete short right to K.Barlow.
3-2-TEN2 (14:29) C.Pennington pass short right to J.Cotchery for 2 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on NYJ-D.Ferguson, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at TEN 2 - No Play.
    3-12-TEN12 (14:20) C.Pennington pass incomplete short middle to J.Cotchery.
4-12-TEN12 (14:15) M.Nugent 30 yard field goal is No Good

Despite the fact that we did not score, it was aggressive, unpredictable playcalling. With the exception of the 2002 playoff win against the Colts and the GB win just prior to that, I can't remember a game where the Herm-led Jets had a lead and aggressively tried to end the game. Normally it was underneath passes and draw plays....eat the clock....don't turn the ball over....don't lose the game. While I'm not ready to buy my SB tickets yet, at least for one day, I see that maybe...just maybe we've got a coaching staff that has the guts to take us there.
