So many signs point to us resigning Fitz and giving him another year to get to contention. However, having said that I believe Geno's days are numbered as a Jet and we need to find a elite talent to groom as Fitz is getting long in the tooth. RG3 is perfect for Chan Gaileys offence, he ran a similar spread offence at Baylor. Having Petty there as his Baylor compatriot I think would be a perfect option if A. Fitzmagic turns to Shitspatrick and B. He goes down with a major injury.
Ok. I guess downgrading from a backup to a more injury prone backup makes sense. You might as well just have Petty as the backup.
If this team was ever going to roster RG3, it would have happened this past season over trading for Fitz.
Better ways to spend that $$ IMO. RG3 is a much bigger injury risk than Fitz is. No reason to think he could be a savior if Fitz were to go down. His name will command a higher salary than his skill set is worth.
?We had the second ranked o line in the league giving up only 22 sacks and 71 QB hits.Regardless id take RG3 over Geno as a backup I guess
Lol you want to get rid of a back up QB that ran this system in college for a back up QB that ran this system in college.. okkkkayy......?
I just feel RG3 has a enormous ceiling and Geno down right stinks. Plus not much to loose if it doesn't pan out... I also can't see RG3 demanding more than 4-5 mil per.. Not a cheap backup but not that expensive either
If we had a stable o-line..maybe. RGKnee doesn't have the pocket awareness Fitz has.. Fitz got killed very much.. just not sacked.
I would sign him if the price is right and it probably will be. He has lots of talent and could benefit from a change in scenery. He in an interesting project for someone.
What price is right? You are already increasing Fitzpatrick's salary from $4 million to an estimated $9 million. Geno's cap number is $1.6 million. Bringing in RGIII will cost a little more than what Fitzpatrick received last year. So $5 mill per season on short term deal. That means investing nearly $8.5 million more into the QB position without any tangible upgrade. Yes Griffin has an upside but we'd only see it if Fitz get hurt. Far more important holes to fill with limited cap space than a tenuous backup QB upgrade.
There's too many teams needing a starter for RG3 to be a backup QB here. I'm willing to go with Fitz Geno/Petty. I don't hate the thought of RG, I just don't see it happening.
he will sign anywhere that offers him the better contract. He's not getting a starting job anyway and so if you were going to be a backup QB somewhere, being the backup of a guy who hasn't been able to hold a starting job for long anywhere in Ryan Fitzpatrick is a decent option.
