per Adam Schefter FWIW: Through two preseason weeks, Jets seventh-round pick Greg McElroy leads all rookie QBs with an 89.5 QB rating
GMac has shown good poise and also the ability to stay in the pocket and get annihilated (thanks Vlad). His arm strength needs vast improvement though. But I could see myself feeling confident in him running the offense a couple years down the line, in the event of an injury.
Granted, to be fair, he's been playing mostly against backups, where many of the other rookie QBs have been starting against first stringers. But, the kid does look impressive.
It's nice to see something out of the kid because Brunell's age, durability and rustiness is a concern. Hope he can be our version of Matt Flynn who was a 7th rounder.
He has all the intangibles and with his work ethic he could prove to be special. All you can really ask for from a 7th round pick.
imo he did show some improvement over last week. thats all u can ask for and if he becomes a starter in this league good for him...... who knows, he may be a nice bargaining chip down the road for the jets. jil
I've been very impressed with him as well. Tough-as-nails, cerebral QB with a history of winning, but doesn't have the talent to start any QB controversy. PERFECT 2nd string QB qualities.
This doesnt suprise me, the kid won a national championship which isnt easy. Sure he had a great team around him but he still need to make the plays.
I like what I see out of the guy. As a backup. Definitely don't see him being starter material unless his arm strength improves.
I think this is pretty much why everyone is so high on him. Everyone takes into consideration how late he went and basically if you can make the team as a 7th, you've exceeded expectations. That said, he's playing like a 4th round QB.
I like him so far. He's tough and makes good decisions, except for the final play of the Texans game. In fairness he already threw what should have been the game winning TD and 84 dropped it.
