Okay ladies. Where do you think he ends up....and for who? *nausea* http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=284090
I don't expect the NYY to be players. I just hope Boston isn't either. Getting Halladay out of the AL East would be addition by subtraction for the NYY.
We were already discussing this in the Yankees thread, but if I had to put my finger on who will wind up with him, right now, I'd say either the Angels or the Phillies. I have no idea how good either farm system is, but those are the only two teams I can see making it happen. The Sox and Yanks are both loathe to give up their top prospects/players. Maybe Tampa could put a great package together, but that would murder the Jays more than allowing him to play for the Yanks and Sox (because it makes it a 3 team race for the division, with the Jays playing 4th fiddle.) Given what the Mets are putting on the professional field, I can't believe they have enough talent to make a trade worthwhile to the Jays. That leaves the Angels and Phillies with the biggest need. Maybe the Dodgers would be interested? Do they have the talent in the system to make it happen? It's interesting that he's given a long list of teams he won't play for. That definitely handcuffs Riccardi.
the dodgers have 4 OF's manny kemp pierre and ethier which they could separate from 1.and add kershaw to that and you might be able to get roy.
if Ricciardi trades him withing the AL East....I hope it's to the Red Sox....their farm system is pretty deep......and I like Bucholz. However.....Ricciardi wants a pitcher and a shortstop.....and the Red Sox are a tad thin at the SS position. I don't think the Yanks have a shot in hell....unless they trade the farm away. Even Cashman isn't that stupid.
He wants to go to a team that has a decent chance of winning a championship during his career, and not at a hitter-friendly park. My bet is the Phillies.
Fenway was the 6th hitter friendly park last year, Yankee stadium (6th '09), Wrigley (8th '08), so that leaves Citizen Bank (15th '08) and Angel Stadium (16th '08). Out of all the teams that were mentioned the Phillies have the best shot at taking Halladay being that they're a contender and their park isn't as hitter-friendly as the others.
I don't believe J.P will trade within the division. If he said otherwise though he would be limiting his trade options and preventing the Halladay's bargaining price from going even further. Knowing that whoever trades this guy will have pretty much blasted their entire farm system, the team that winds up with him will also want to commit to having him for more than just one season. I see the Sox as more likely buyers than Yankees but neither as that likely. I do fully expect these Halladay talks leading to teams walking away with other big salary guys like Rollen, Rios, Overbay etc. Judging by what Ricardi says he sounds like his asking price is going to by way higher than anyone is willing to pay. He'll just take the two first rounders after next year and be done with it. If he goes anywhere, it'll be the Phillies or Dodgers though.
I think he ends up in Philly. I heard they've got a lot down on the farm to give up for him. Dodgers would be the next place he goes. Unless Ricciardi is a Pioli type special agent in cahoots with the Yanks or Sox. Then it makes perfect sense for Halladay to end up in the AL East.
Based on everything that's been reported Philly and Dodgers have just as much to offer as both divison foes. So it would take a decidedly better offer like you said and I doubt the Yanks or Sox are that desperate to get one guy even if it's Halladay.
What everyone is ignoring is that he has a long list of teams he refuses to be traded to, so that's a roadblock in itself.
