http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/07/dolphins-keep-brian-hartline/ PFT reports: Hartline had a good year last year, but I'm not sure he's worth that...
The lack of TDs would concern me if I were to sign him, but he is a solid #2 receiver. Here is a fun fact. If you compare Hartline's and Holmes' 2010 and 2011 combined yardage, Hartline has 246 fewer yards than Holmes.
It is quite a bit of money but I am ultimately glad he stayed. He finally had the opportunities last year and became a reliable target and developed a good relationship with Tannehill. Hartline is a very smart player and seems to make acrobatic catches. Not a game breaker, but someone that the defense has to pay attention to. Teaming him up with a true #1 will be good! Although I am skeptical of adding a Mike Wallace because the Steelers typically don't let great players walk that do not have any red flags (attitude, money, trouble, declining, etc.) a la Santonio Holmes, Joey Porter, Alan Faneca, Plaxico Burress, among others.
Yep and the contract isn't that bad when it's 5 years and only 12 mil guarantee (you know the number the really matters) and it's only a 3-4 mil cap hit this year.
The deal was nicely structured with only 12 mil guaranteed in these 5 years "Just got the numbers on Brian Hartline's contract. Signing bonus of $7 million, 2013 cap number of $2.115 million Hartline's first two base salaries are fully guaranteed: $715k in 2013 and $4.785 million in 2014. Last three bases are $5.9m, $6.1m, $6.1m" https://twitter.com/BenVolinPBP Basically hartline and matt moore are only a 4.6 cap hit this year.
