Check out the below from ESPN.com. Some things that I didn't know before were players loss of benefits and the NFL draft going away. This is such a lose-lose situation. I hope this weekend will yield a compromise.
Wow. I was against the salary cap until today. I am more than happy to see a cap if it means this crap can be avoided. This is shaping up to be more damaging to football than the baseball strike was to its sport.
Dan Snyder without the draft: Hey Mel, who are your top 25 rated players coming out of college this year? Then Dan picks up his cell phone and check book and starts making calls. They better get something done in this three day window.
oh boy we're in deep shit now. How can they do this? Its just nuts!!! With football working so well for the past (however long its been like this) why can't that fat-ass Upshaw and Tagliabue come to a freaking agreement!
It's going to be resolved. The NFL knows it has THE BEST system in professional sports, and it knows the system is what's gotten it this far. It's going to get it's act together. They know what's at stake, that's why they didn't just walk away. The draft should be addressed. It's borderline ridiculous that a team can make a bad selection at quarterback in the top five and set the franchise back five years. The NBA's rookie contract approach is actually not terrible, although the league could tweak it to make it more NFL suitable. Perhaps they could do more in the way of veteran benefits, so the PA would approve it. -X-
Wow, if the union and the NFL allow this to happen I would be astonished and extremely pissed. Why screw up a good thing that is working. Yes, there may have to be minor modifications, but basically the whole plan works. I remember the one strike year, which I think was 82. What a joke. BTW, that was also the year of the mud bowl. There was only a 9 game season. Somewhere along the line the intensity of the game was lost - it just wasn't the same with the season being so short. I sure hope this does not happen. The NFL needs to continue to set the example, not become the example.
