A buddy of mine from Pittsburgh said he read a rumour in the Post-Gazette that the Jets might be interested in Taylor. There's nothing anywhere on this rumor right now, and it would cost the Jets their #29 pick. But according to my buddy, Taylor 6'1", 215 lbs is a good young corner who keeps getting better each year. Below are his stats. Anyone heard anything on this, or have an opinion on the player?

    # 24 Ike Taylor
    Position: DB
    Height: 6-1
    Weight: 191
    Born: 05/05/1980
    College: La.-Lafayette
    NFL Experience: 4

We can NOT give up our 29th pick for it unless we TRADE with Pittsburgh.

If we just sign him, and Pittsburgh does not match, they get #4, not #29.

The rules of RFAs say that you have to give up YOUR PICK or HIGHER. This is to prevent teams from dealing for #31 for example, (since Pittsburgh has #32) and then signing someone.

Yeah we would be better off taking Ashton Youboty or Antonio Cromartie or Jonathon Joseph.

I believe Ike Taylor posted one of the fastest 40's the Combine has ever seen, prior to Jerome Mathis. He was drafted specifically for his incredible athleticism. In this regard, he'd be a major upgrade over the less athletic Barrett and Strait, but I don't know what kind of cover guy he is. I don't think he's worth a first round pick. I think this falls under the category of inflating the stock of Super Bowl players. Caveat Emptor.

good point id much rather take Cromartie at 36 (although id like to get him in the 3rd)

but at 6 ft 3, with his size and athleticism he will be gone after the 2nd round.

he was all american as a sophmore folks.

but how good does that sound? 6ft 3 corner....yummy

Well he basically shut down Chad Johnson one game last year. He's as fast a player as your going to find. Doesn't have great hands, will drop picks. He's still raw and they have developed him slowly, his cover skills have gotten much better. While shut down corners don't seem to exist in the nfl, Ike Taylor is probably going to be a top of the line cornerback and probably make a few pro bowls. I figured someone drafting 23-32 may make a move for him, but I'm sure he'll want a huge contract.

That's mighty generous of ya. Why don't you just send them a pile of sh-t in an envelope instead?

    haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol.......

I love how people think you can pile up crappy players and crappy picks to get a great player in return.

"We'll give the Chiefs our 6th, 7th, Dreesen, and Rashard Washington plus a box of Crispy Cremes and a 2 hankerchiefs for Larry Johnson and Gonzales."

I mean to say i'd give them a third rounder for Ike Taylor is embarrassing. Oh and maybe a late rounder, yeah that's enticing. Let me fill some of these overraters in on this. IKE TAYLOR FOR #29 WILL NOT HAPPEN BUT if it did, it's a COMPLETE HEIST FOR THE JETS.

He posted a 4.34 immediately after the SB.

There's a nice article on him at Profootballtalk

Thank you. That guy can be a # 1 corner in the NFL no problem. To give up the 29th pick in the draft to get a #1 quality corner, who in the hell wouldn't do that? Pitt would be dumb to take that trade.

I'll take a look at that, good heads up.

Pitt plays a ton of man cause Troy plays a lot in the box. So those 2 corners are used to a lot of one on one coverage. Pitt would never let this guy leave.

I'd give up a third and throw in a comp for taste.

What the hell has this kid done? One good play doesnt call for a first.

    One mentioned great player..wtf?

Like i said 3rd rounder and a comp, and the highest i would give is a second. If not bye bye. Rather draft, if the FO is eyeing a CB then just draft a that texas kid HUFF.

They play cover 3 mostly. They give up short passes outside the numbers all day so that they don't give up long passes. I'd like to see Ike play more bump and run with his speed and size and see how he would handle that type of coverage.

Are you serious? You think Huff will be around at 29? He's the best defensive back in the draft. And I know you don't mean draft Huff at 4.

So what, you would rather give our #4?

Taylor is okay. Nothing to get excited about here.

If you're tops in the league in passes defensed, it means teams are throwing at you. A whole lot. I wouldn't count that as an extremely exciting statistic. Corners are very difficult to judge by stats, but large quantities of interceptions and passes defensed only means lots of opportunities, and it might be a red flag.
