Do the Sox resign him and for how much? I think a 4 year, 60+ will be around what he gets, if the Sox resign him. If not, he may get more.

Sorry, I have an ALCS to watch tonight, but I will think about that in a couple weeks.

It's never wise to let your leading RBI and HR-getter leave, especially with Poopie's best days behind him.

I have to wonder if they want to look into Holliday. Epstein recently defended the Drew contract by saying that by their standards, he was one of the "two or three most valuable outfielders". Take that for what it's worth, but that suggests to me that they value defense and OBP much, much more than raw HR and RBI totals. Bay is the kind of player who racks up the traditional counting stats but is overly streaky and is well below average in the field. They have some money to spend and Holliday would contribute about the same offensively while saving a lot more with his defense (despite that horror show in the playoffs this year).

If they are looking to spend a shit ton of money this year I think they should look into perusing Holliday to make him the left fielder and bring Bay back to be the DH while dumping Ortiz. That would most likely mean spending at least 150 million on two players, but they need an upgrade at DH and Bay's defense was shaky, and doing that would definitely be an improvement.

I'm not sold on Holliday, but I deffinetly want Bay back. Not sure who else is out there bat wise. We need pitching help, as well.

drew had a great season in 09. his injuries will always be there. i don't like having holliday replace bay. bay is the guy who fits in perfectly with the sox. walks all the time, and hits the clutch hr.

But what about bringing Bay back as the DH and having Holliday replace him in left? That's not something I think they'd go for considering the money required, but if they did that the offense would get a lot better and they'd be saving more runs with Holliday's defense over Bay's. Bay had a -13.9 uzr last year while Holliday had a 5.3.

I like Bay, I think the redsox resign him. He fits their system and plays well against the yanks.

For the Mets fans here, we have to be happy with either getting Bay or Holliday. Whoever the Sox's don't sign, we need to get ASAP!
