While Tannehill is clearly the Jets fourth choice behind; Rodgers, Carr and Garoppolo it's really not a choice that inspires that much confidence. He was injured last year hasn't put up any impressive numbers in a couple of years. It's the typical Jets story they miss out on the Lamborghini and the Maserati but, let's kick the tires on the AMC Pacer and see how that works out. Douglas and company have got to do better than this if they intend to keep their jobs and the Jets fanbase sane.
I think this is the Jets hedging. They’re going to talk to Carr but they’re really waiting on Rodgers. If Carr doesn’t wait, they have a fall back plan. A subpar one for sure in my eyes. We’re pairing this guy with the same coordinator that just collaborated on one of the leagues worst passing offenses. Next we’re going to sign a QB coach that worked with Garoppolo 3 years ago so we have a coach that has been on the same staff with all these guys.
Here is his full quote, which lists Jets pecking order: Rodgers, Carr, Jimmy, Tanny. Tanny is #4. Sounds about right. I would even put him at #3, since Jimmy plays only half of available games, even though Tanny was injured too last year. But still, if he is option #4, I don't really see a problem. Hopefully we will end up with option #1 or 2, but if that's not possible, you gotta have a contingency.
Tannehill doesn't make me want to put $80 of gas in the SUV and drive 3 hrs to MetLife. The Jet PR Dept's worst nightmare is a beige QB signing to sell to the fanbase. Go Big or Go Home? Looking like the Jets go home and I go fishing if they miss out.
We absolutely have to find a better option at QB for next season, and if we can't land any of the other names, then Tannehill is definitely an upgrade. There really aren't any incredible options anyway - it's not like Mahomes is available. Rodgers is old and in decline and we've seen that movie before.
If Ryan Tannehill was on the Jets last year, we make the playoffs. While the name is underwhelming, here are some interesting stats. -Career 64% completion % and has been over 65% the past 3 years -212 TD to 108 INT -78-65 record as a starter Tannehill is likely the #2 option for the Jets after Rogers and I would argue a better option then DC. Signing him allows the jets to continue to use their draft capital to stock the pantry and keep them in a good cap position moving forward. Ryan Tannehill (tennesseetitans.com)
Ot sure I understand…is Tannehill a free agent? I didn’t know he was, but if he’s not and he’s still under contract to the Titans then we’d have to trade for him… not a super exciting or inspiring choice but again…ANY of Carr, Tannehill, Minshew, Brissett, and the like are ALL significant upgrades for us. They ALL are. Zach was bottom three QB and worst in many categories…these guys are all about middle of the pack guys give or take. Significant upgrades compared to the shitshow we had.
He's my #3 choice.... and I'm sure the JETS as well. Tannehill, White...... Wilson. Add some O-line help (pray that Hall is a quick healer)... add a LB, and this team can compete. May not be a SB team, but sadly just being playoff competitive is a huge upgrade for this team
He's in his last year of his deal but carries a $36 million cap hit. Titans are $21 million over the cap now too. It's 50/50 if they keep him or rebuild.
they are raising ticket prices 25% they have to justify this with the product on the field. This is why we are hearing report Woody will spend for a QB. it’s not reasonable to “settle” on garropolo or tanny I’m not too worried. Yet.
Hackett, Downing (with or w/out a buzz), Tannehill - with that trifecta, there should be no more than zero people in the stands on opening day.
So if Carr decides he prefers cajun cooking in the Big Easy and signs with N'awlins, Rodgers gets lost in the darkness, then retires to host Jeopardy, & Garappalo suffers a Lis Franc fracture chasing down the ice cream man what you'd then prefer? Starting Zach Wilson?
It's a good point. There just aren't many great options out there. The good news is, our quarterbacking last year was so awful we don't need a great option to significantly improve.
I would take a good look at the ice cream man before Wilson. Hopefully there is light after darkness.
