The Jets defense seems to be confused a little bit in the last couple weeks. If you were the coach, how are you going to fix it?
They cant finish games!Same problem they were havin toward the end of last years regular season. We need to do somethin bout stoppin the TE's and slot receivers we are absolutally gettin killed by that and the screens.Asides from obviously needin a pass rusher the safeties and linebackers must get better in coverage. This all needs to be fixed ASAP or this string of magic wont be lastin too long.
Have the defense get the fuck on the same page. Its the new guys that are still having problems half way though the season.
I'll tell you one thing a lot of us are thinking, and I'm sure they themselves are thinking: without getting too technical about blown assignments, a lack of a consistent pass rush and failure to cover the other team's TE/RB, these guys have to man the fuck up toward the end of the game. In the Cleveland game, even when McCoy got them to the 3, I said, no fucking way are they getting it in, and they did. Texan game, you expect more from this team than to give up 17 consecutive, Greene fumble or not. They need to man the fuck up, and every guy on the defensive side of the locker room, coaches included, know that. I, for one, think they're embarrassed by the last 2 weeks and will not let it happen again. They have too good a defense for it to be a consistent problem. Too good of coaches, too.
Maybe we should just send JT-Pouha-Ellis-Devito in man coverage blitzes and have Scott and Harris play against slot recievers. Then again i know nothing.
Is it that we just dont' have the personnel to do the job or are our guys just playing like dogs in the end?
It's the complete lack of communication. For whatever reason they get in these phases and no one has any idea where they are supposed to be.
Aside from revis and cromartie, the jets have average personnel at just about every position on defense. Last year the schemes were new for a lot of teams. The nfl is a react and copycat league. You need to adapt to keep the other side off balance. Ryan is a little stubborn in doing that I think.
Pass rush is nonexistent, Brodney Pool sucks, Eric Smith sucks twice as hard as Brodney Pool, Coleman has been better than expected but still average/below average, Revis has been beaten late in the last two games after being shutdown the first three and a half quarters...
Ellis - on the downside of his career, at this stage, yes, avg at best Leonhard - love the guy, but to consider him an elite safety is ridiculous Pouha - ? Come on.... Harris - probably next after the 2 corners. Surprised you didn't say Scott....to me he is the most overrated. All I'm trying to say is the sum is better than the parts. When they aren't fooling people with schemes, or having mental breakdowns, I think that becomes more evident.
I actually agree with him with the exception of Harris, and maybe Scott. Leonard, Pool, Taylor, Pace, Thomas, Pouha, Ellis and Devito are very average players. They play decent football in our system, but these are far from bigtime guys. Throw in other rotational guys like Gholston, Eric Smith, Pryce and Wilson/Coleman, and our D looks extremely average. Teams like Arizona, Greenbay, and Washington have similar talent to the Jets on D. If you look at a team like Pittsburg, they blow us away talent wise.
I think you pretty much summed up what I was trying to get at. Listen, I love the way Ryan hypes up the D and holds them to such a high standard. But this is not the best D in the league by any means. But it doesn't need to be this year. Last year it did. But sanchez has matured immensely and has firepower everywhere now around him. Think back to the afc title game when greene went down...and how far we've come since
I'm a firm believer that most of our problems have to do with poor coverage down the middle of the field. Someone needs to be able to cover the TE.
