1. The lack of pass rusher and competent safety tandem working in the back of the field is more a problem of Tannenbaum than problem of Rex. Seriously, did Mangini have that blue-chip pass rusher? Ever since John Abraham was traded away, the pass rusher has been a huge hole. Also, don't even think Mangini had a good safety combination either. Other than Sherry, who hated anything physical, who else was there? Erik Coleman was mediocre, and was overpaid by the Falcons. Other than that, who? Dig? Elam? Who? 2. I believe I mentioned this but I will iterate again. Even before the arrival of Rex Ryan, Jets still functioned as a run first team. Or are you guys telling me Chad Pennington was setting the league on fire or something? Are you nuts? That said, Jets FO rarely added blue-chip OL since Mangold and Ferguson. Oh yeah. They burned their 2nd round pick on a project. Stroke of a genius, I tell ya. Other than that, they lucked out on Slauson, thanks to his connection with Callahan. 3. RB spot is questionable at best - that, I whole-heartedly agree. Greene can't be trusted to carry the load for the entire duration of the season. On top of that, he doesn't seem to understand the blocking scheme as well as his job description requires him to. Just, I happen to believe that, fixing the OL always takes the precedence over RB, because stable OL provides strong platform for both pass and rushing situations. For now, Jets have two good starter in Mangold and Ferguson, one adequate OL in Moore, one decent starter in Slauson, and one road pylon called Wayne Fucking Hunter. As the proverbial sage would say, you are always as strong as your weakest link. WFH will seriously fuck things up in both run and pass situation. Unless that gets fixed, Jets are going nowhere. (In terms of the offense, that is.) 4. By the same token, if the front seven fails to exert their will on the opposing OLs, the defense is not going anywhere either. In short, Tom Brady will almost always make sure the home field goes through Foxboro, not NY. Yeah, good safeties help a lot, but if the front seven is as deficient as Jets front seven, any minuscule hole in the back four will be magnified that much. (which in turn says a lot about what kind of herculean job Revis and Cro are doing as CBs.)
I mean why not? If he's healthy he can be a good option for 2 or 3 years. We just need to make sure that we draft safetys to takeover when he starts to lose a step or 2.
