Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets are expected to sign a veteran free agent offensive lineman. They've had free agent OC Trey Teague (Bills) and free agent OTs Anthony Clement (49ers) and Mike Pearson (Jaguars) in for visits.

What happened to Brad Hopkins? Was he signed by another team, or was he leaning toward retirement.

Ok, thanks that is what I thought. I guess I would want Pearson too, considering he is the only one from a decent team.

Sign Clement. I think he will be an adequate player for the Jets.

I have no idea what that "position rating" system is.

I have seen Teague many times and I know he's terrible. Often overmatched inside, no more than mediocre outside.

Pearson is still young. He's a guy that might just need a change of scenery. He's not a mauler by any means, but there's a chance that he can be salvaged.

Clement was out of shape last year, and when he is he looks it. He's always been a very talented guy who has, for the most part, underachieved. Since I'm a glutton for punishment I follow Arizona part-time, and I've had an eye on him for a while. He might be an asset, but at 30, you wonder if he has the motivation, or if he'll ever get it.

If we're going after any of these guys, I'm hoping it's Pearson.

Didn't Pearson blow out a knee a year ago or so?

Pearson would be a good signing.

If the Jets sign 1 or 2 of these players and Williams is off the board look for them to trade down a few spots and take eihter a defensive tackle or just maybe Jay Cutler. They love him but not at the 4 spot.

Pearson is an injury boy and he's not an amazing player...

but he'd fill in an open spot on our line alright...

By that thinking, we won't draft Williams because they signed Kimo. If the Jets sign one of these vets it would be for depth. Nevermind starters, there is no depth on the line after Goodwin left. What veteran leadership is left? Morley or Cavka?

It is going to be Williams or Brick at 4. Whoever is left. These signings are for depth and to teach the youngins.

Pearson had torn 3 ligaments 4 games into the 04 season. He lost some weight and by this time last year he was about 30 lbs underweight. He started 2 games but it was clear he still needed more time. Khalif Barnes who was a steal in the 2nd rnd wound up being huge at LT, and now that we got Mike Williams who was the 4th pick in the 02 draft, well we pretty much have the starting tackle position locked up leaving Pearson to be the odd man out as starter.

Mike strengths lie in his pass blocking rather than run blocking. He can hold his own against most DE's but has a hard time with the Mike Freeneys of the world.

You are supposed to put a space after the period sign. I don't think I have seen you do it once yet since you have been on the board.
