There are 6 spots open for the AFC Playoff race. As of now, the top 4 teams are in 1-Colts 2-Denver 3-Pats 4-Cincinatti The only teams left with hope of a wild card are: Jets Jaguars Ravens Chargers Cheifs Jags-With Leftwich hurt, the loss of Pederson(there best defensive player), and a loss coming this weekend in Philly-I see them as an 8 win team. Ravens-this offense is horrible. Firing fassal is a desparate move. Billick knows this team is in trouble. Again, 8 wins at best Chargers-this is a good football team. Losing merriman will hurt but they will make the playoffs this year. Cheifs-they are now on their 3rd string qb. Even when green comes back, he will be rusty. and lets not forget the coach. He will at least blow 2 games this year with clock goofs in close games. I see another 8 win team at best. Jets-with the running game coming around and the defense playing better, this is a good football team. They also have the easiest schedule in the league. 11 wins is not out of the question but most likely they get to 10 wins. Jets fans, look for the Jets to be traveling to New England on wild card weekend. They could also be playing Denver but I have a feeling its Mangini/Bellichek in the palyoffs. Thoughts?
I love the optimism. I truly agree that the Jets can win 10 games based on their schedule. With the teams you have listed as "Wild Card Hopes", except the Cheifs, the other three teams have a better chance on making it than us. They are better all around teams than the Jets. The Jets have won 4 games based on schedule. Yes they were competitive against the Colts and should of won, but I truly believe the Jets are playing above their heads. The offense has played well, but the Jets defense is atrocious. Not that I'm saying the talent the Jets has is crap, but the scheme is not right for our players. Each week will continue to be a nail biter, until the Jets defense picks it up. If the Jets get to the playoffs, kudos to them. If not, then thats what I expected.
Jax is in trouble. After they lose to the Eagles in Philly on Sunday, they will have lost 4 out of the last 5 games. This is not playoff caliber football. I also think the Ravens will lose to the Saints in New Orleans on Sunday. They will then have lost 3 in a row. This is also not playoff caliber football. If the Jets beat the Browns, thats 3 wins in a row. Playoff caliber baby!
I have several issues with the topic: 1. Don't count out the Steelers just yet, 2-4 is not out of it by any means. 2. The Jets are not yet a good team. Even with the running game coming around there is an entire side of the ball that they are having trouble on. Note that there are only 2 teams in the entire NFL and none in the AFC that have allowed more points than the Jets at this point in the season. 3. The Jets have been blessed so far in terms of injuries whereas several of the other teams in the hunt against us (KC, Jacksonville and Pittsburgh) have been decimated by injuries. We have no idea how the injuries will fall in the seocnd half of the season.
double check your stats in Point #2 Houston, Tennessee, Green Bay, Detroit, & San Fransisco have all given up more points/game the us. The only reason only a couple of teams have given up more points then us, is because most of those teams i listed have all had their Bye Week, and we haven't
Jets will make the playoffs, anywhere from 10-6 to 12-4 with out schedule. The only real "definite" loss is to Chi, and of course anything can happen on any given sunday. The jets will beat the remaining "bad" teams to get 10 wins, and I can also see them beating Minn and/or NE.
I didn't say points per game, I said total points. I still think that's a valid marker for where the Jet's defense is right now. Note that the teams that are allowing more points per game are a combined 8-24 at the moment.
Who cares how many points they let up, just as long as we have more than the other team when the clock hits 0:00 at the end of the 4th.
Good teams, teams that win playoff games, don't allow the other team to score at the level the Jets are right now. That "just as long as we have more points than the other guy at the end" mentality gets blown out by good teams when it counts.
This should win the SUNSHINER of the year award. To even use the words playoffs and Jets in the same sentence at this time of the season is crazy. If the Browns somehow beat us tomorrow will you still be singing this? ER no!
The Jets do have a legitimate shot by virtue of their easy schedule. It may be a little early to be proclaiming us a playoff team though.
How is it crazy? The Fans should've been expecting playoffs this entire season, before it even started. The Jets we're a FG away from the afc championship game only 2 yrs ago. Then in 05, we were believed to be a SB team, but were plagued with injuries. The 05 team was a playoff team without the injuries. In 06, we made drastic improvements by replacing our idiot FO and making great moves to improve the team in the draft and in FA. Which is exactly why the 06 jets should be expected to be a playoff team, as we have only improved from our 04 team and 05 team. Anything short of the playoffs is a disappointment in my book.
I would agree with you if we could stop time for the Jets and let the clock run on everyone else. You said it , that was 2 years ago. Should be expecting playoffs????:drunk:
Hey,if we win the games we should win, which is all but 2,we should have a very legit chance at this. But lets concentrate on winning the game we're supposed to win first. I wouldn't be too quick to count out Jax yet either. gerrard isn't all that bad a qb.
Making the playoffs has nothing to do with your schedule the following year. It is where you finish in your division. The way it looks, we will finish in second place in our division. That means we will play the 2 second place teams in the AFC North and West(we play every team in the Central next year). So making the playoffs or not has nothing to do with our strength of schedule in 2007.
