What the fuck is this guys problem...I can understand the Manny and A-Rod hate but what's his problem with the captain?

I don't know if he mis-spoke or what but if I had a son that was playing baseball right now Jeter is the FIRST person I'd tell him to watch. And then he brings up Thome for the hall of fame like Thome's above steroid suspicion. If we're going by the rookie card test, Thome fails.

Everyone of those old assholes are jealous of the money today's players make. I don't listen to any of them. Willy Mays was the only honest one in the group when he said we all drank the red juice.

"During the Pittsburgh drug trials in the mid-1980s, outfielder John Milner testified that Willie Mays introduced him to a liquid amphetamine known as "red juice." More than a decade later, Tony Gwynn spoke of rampant amphetamine use in the game, and David Wells referred to greenies in his book, "Perfect I'm Not: Boomer on Beer, Brawls, Backaches, and Baseball." "

And if they had steroids then they would have taken them too..so all of this pious bullshit is just that.

As Jim Bouton in the greatest baseball book ever written, Ball Four said; "If I could take a pill that would put 5-10 more miles an hour and keep my arm from being dead but take 5 years off my life I'd take it"

Jim Rice when he says shit like this sounds like a bitter old fool. Be happy you got your spot in immortality that imho you were a borderline guy for anyway.

Shouldn't be any question on how he was being black balled from the HOF...

One thing to call out guys for using steroids, another to bitch about baggy clothing and modern haircuts.... Jim Rice's getup would look retarded in today's society.

And for the record Jim, Jeter hasn't been sniped with roids, doesn't wear a baggy uniform and has a normal haircut.

Let's also not discount that any time Jeter is asked about his personal accomplishments, he sincerely looks like he doesn't give a damn, and always brings the conversation back to being about his team winning ball games.

    Jim Rice is a douche.

I think Mr. Rice forgot about the money players of his day like Reggie or the upstading players like Pete Rose. Not that I begrudge those guys anything, I just find Rice's comments rediculous.

Did you hear during the game that someone contact Kay to tell him that Jim Rice once responded to the question "What's your favorite thing about playing in the major leagues?" with "The 1st and the 15th."

Nice. Just like Ortiz with his "100 games" for steroid users.

    Must be a Sawx thing.

He wasn't being black balled, he just didn't have a hall of fame career. Being an ass didn't help him of course.

Having the sympathy of Sox fans (who dominate the baseball media) certainly did help him get over the hump, however.

I agree. He was done by 36. Seeing that asshole get in makes me wish even more that Mattingly's back didn't give out because if you ask me who I want on my team in the prime of their careers I'm taking Mattingly. Forget about Rice being an asshole and not a leader, Mattingly was an offensive force and was one of the best defensive first baseman of all time.

EDIT: And btw if I get killed by sox fans for saying rice isn't a hall of famer, then put Ellis Burks in to. Very similar career numbers.

Bagwell should definitely be in. I wasn't old enough to really remember Rice, but looking at BRs HOF monitors and such he looks like a perfectly acceptable candidate.

Do steroid allegations keep Sheffield and Juan Gonzalez out of the HOF?

I certainly feel there is alot of anti Red Sox venom being spewed in this thread. Rices comments are fine until he mentions Jeter.... Umm Jim , Jeter is a terrific role model. He plays hard, and plays it the right way. God I hate him so much too.... Seriously Jim if you find any flaws with Jeter other than the fact that he's got more rings than the Sox have in abour 85 less years than that's it but to lump him in with cheats like Aroid and Manny is disturbing.

I find it odd that he didn't mention his former Red Sox teammate and maybe the biggest scumbag of them all in Rogah Clemons.....
