yeah...i noticed that too.....not exactly a glowing endorsement for the old man. sounds like Bart Scott is embracing his leadership role early in the get-go ......excellent
Anybody else getting tired of Bart Scott and his trash-talking? I mean, I'm glad it's making the other players around him better. And I also don't mind hearing from Twitter that he's yapping his mouth during practice...but on a formal interview, can we at least hear what he ACTUALLY brings to the defense, like, "Bart Scott can recognize the offense on play they've only ran once a few weeks back and make the proper audible". Or "Bart Scott talks about as fast as his mouth shoots. He can keep up with receivers and running back on coverage plays". Just looking for technical stuff. Break down Scott's strengths and maybe even something new that he's bringing into this defense that the Ravens couldn't do. You know...something insightful, rather than simply him just not shutting up all day in practice.
Here's a scouting report I found on sportsnet.ca I think his play on the field will be very good but what he will bring as a leader will be invaluable. I hate that argument that "oh he played on a great defense therefore he's not that good"....maybe he was actually part of the reason why the Baltimore defense was so good? Ray Lewis has slowed down a ton over the years and the Ravens still didn't burned by tight ends and backs
Thanks for the scouting report, but I'm sure you know what I meant. I guess it's the off-season and it'll have to do for now. For once, I'd like to hear another player when interviewed and asked about Bart Scott, that he'd say "...doesn't stop talking, BUT, he's also bringing in something he's never done before in (fill in paragraph where Scott is taking the defense to the level AND above what the Ravens had last year)".
It says he's a decent pass defender and blitzer and then says he is prone to miss-timing his blitzes and is a liability in space.....
I'm sure Rex Ryan brought him because he's a good player. That's not what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is--and this isn't a knock on Bart Scott--out of all the things he does well, what is it that differentiates him from what we had last year. But whatever, I already figured this is only OTA's so I guess I shouldn't expect a great breakdown of anything and anybody as of yet.
lol im more surprised the amount of trash talking he does catches you off guard. ive watched the ravens ALOT over the past well few years to say the least, and thats simply the kind of guy he is. he trash talks like a cocky asshole and plays like a 1970's "bring your lunch pale to work" LB. IMO with talent like having scott/harris in the middle, jenkins in front of them, and a secondary that i think will surprise some people; scott will give this defense an identity. and it will simply be. were gonna hit you hard, and were gonna remind you about it in between every snap. now i know what your original impulse prolly was, simply the fact that, the only in depth stories we get are about his personality. and your ready to see him back it up. well we will have the chance and i doubt anyone is disappointed (not literally this is jets fans were talking)
Random comment = don't have anything better to do? Seriously dude, why do you feel the need to troll the Jets board? Bart Scott is by no means a hall of fame player, but he he did make the pro-bowl. Just because he was a UFA doesn't mean he's not talented. I'm not saying every pro-bowl player is justified, but he is by no means garbage. Was he overpaid? I think so to be perfectly honest, but he certainly makes our defense better. List of things that we gain by having Bart Scott: A physical wrap up tackler with good speed for an ILB. Knowledge of Rex's defensive terminology and the types of schemes that he plans to install Leadership and swagger. and most importantly Both he and David Harris have the skills necessary to pass rush OR drop into coverage on passing downs. A lot of teams don't have the versatility to do that in the 3-4. This means that the offense identifying what responsibilities these two are going to have is going to have more trouble. Part of the beauty of Rex's defense is that it thrives on versatile players, its just one more tool he can use in order to create confusion for the other team. Its great to have an Ed Reed and a Ray Lewis and a Terrel Suggs, I won't argue. However, Rex isn't the "Mad Scientist" because he tells his 3 star players to go get the ball... No, he uses each players strengths to his advantage and the Jets have a talented versatile defense that was playing in a miserable defensive scheme for the last few years...
