I've been following Gray's story relatively closely since the preseason. His father, a really well respected football coach, died the night before Jacksonville's game against Green Bay. Quinn played in that game. This is what he had to say: "This is a sad day for me and my family," Gray said in a statement issued by the team before the game. "I'll play tonight with a heavy heart, but I want to play because that is what my dad would want me to do. I want to play for my dad and my family. Tell my family I love them and I'll be home soon." The Jaguars felt secure enough with their QB situation after that that they bounced Byron Leftwich, inserted Garrard as the starter and made Gray the primary back-up. Well that's all well and good, but can he play? Well, if you watched Jags football at all this year while Garrard was out, you'd know the answer is "yes." He threw 10 touchdowns to 5 interceptions and went 2-1 as the starter. But this kid can throw some BOMBS- he made the Jags receiving core look like a pro bowl collection. He's elusive. Not a burner, but elusive. I think the Lions would be crazy not to pick this guy up. With their receiving core and with their O-Line instability, Gray would be the perfect choice to compete with Kitna and Stanton. Regardless, I wish Quinn Gray well. Not because of the father thing. Not because of the quality play. But because the dude wears a tinted visor. That shit is gangsta!
The visor is badass, but maybe not for night games. He was wearing that thing on their night game against the Colts this year, and halfway through the game it was taken off. I mean that thing wasn't just dark, it was pitch black. I can't imagine why in the hell they let him start the game with it on.
Players are allowed to wear tinted eye shields only after the League office is supplied with appropriate medical documentation and approval is granted.
