I'm in a league that a bunch of us have been running for, I think 4 years now. Finally gonna do a live draft at my place, always wanted to run one and see how it goes. Just looking for some advice/suggestions from guys that have done a live draft before.

What exactly do I need? What makes the process go by faster? Anything that just makes it as smooth as possible. Definitley gonna have a few beers, order a pizza and draft. Any advice helps.

I would buy one of these: http://www.ultimatedraft.com/?gclid=COScqKv31KMCFUcz5wodQQHXuQ

It would be worth the money man and everyone would enjoy it much more. If you have this it's all you really need. Maybe a cooler for the beers so you don;t have guys getting up and leaving too much

Another idea which is cheaper but restricts space a bit is to havea laptop and a projector then make a draft chart in Excel and use it to track picks. The onyl crappy thing is that you need a cart or table for it, and people can't walk in front of it.

we had a live draft last weekend for the first time. had a pretty good time.

the place had a pretty large tv so we hooked up a computer and had a spreadsheet following picks. but we also put up all of the picks on the wall. everytime we made a pick, we wrote the name down on the back of an index card and taped it up to the wall under our team name.

we took a 10 minute break after 8 rounds. picks had to be made within 1.5 minutes. if there were a few rapid picks in a row, we made sure to slow it down or it got too hectic. decide on a punishment if people go over the time limit.

if you can, try to have someone who's not involved in the draft come over to hang out and handle the miscellaneous things. keeping track of taken players, time management, grabbing drinks for people, etc.

definitely a better time than sitting alone at a computer and drafting. you're going to have a blast!
