Lorenzo Neal-RB-Raiders Sep. 6 - 10:04 am et The Jets and Ravens are reportedly interested in free agent FB Lorenzo Neal. At 38, Neal is going to have to prove he can still play at an NFL level. But considering the four-time Pro Bowler paved the way for the Ravens' top-ranked rushing attack last season, chances are he'll get another look. New Jets coach Rex Ryan is obviously very familiar with Neal, having worked in Baltimore last year. Source: Newark Star-Ledger http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=592 Not really sure why we would be considering him. I feel like Tony Richardson does a great job already and fullback is a position we are set on. The only thing i can think of is that Ryan wants him because he's familiar with him, but personally I hope we just stay with Richardson. If we were gunna have 2 fullbacks i would have preferred Caulcrick (forgot how to spell his name) so that he could have learned from Richardson and been the guy next year.
Why because Rex wants to run a smash mouth offense similiar to what the Ravens did last year . Trich has been hurt and Rex has full knowledge of Neal as he played for the Ravens. This makes a hell of lot more sense than keeping Woodhead.
We are not going to keep 2 38 yrs old FB... you can be sure about that. If we sign Neal it's because Richardson in too banged up to play in one of the most physical positions in the NFL and he'll be released.
In this type of offense keeping two FB's ( regardless of age) makes more sense then wasting a spot on an extra scatback . Again as others have pointed out before would two be active for games - unlikely , but I'd rather go into the season with two FB's on my roster. And to futher the point last year the Ravens had Neal and Mclain active in games - now Mclain may not have been offically listed as a FB , but trust me, he was a FB.
Yeah i agree with that. I understand they're both pro bowl fullbacks, but having 2 38 year old fullbacks just doesn't make to much sense to me.
I think we'll keep Caulcrick on our PS in case a FB is needed. As some guy on NFL.com pointed out yesterday teams actually have a 61 players roster... the ability of the FO is to keep on the PS guys who they don't think will get signed by other teams and on the 53 man roster those who will. At the end of the day the important players are the one on the 45 gameday roster.. the extra 8 on the 53 man roster and 8 on the PS have to be decided with the rule i mentioned above. Caulcrick will generate no interest from other teams, Woodhead will. This is why one is on the PS and one is in the 53 man roster. PS since we are talking FB anyone know what the hell happened to Southerland? After getting cut by the Jets no team picked him up... I guess his foot injury is pretty serious... PPS Did you guys remember Lorenzo Neal played for the Jets in 1997 ?
Hello - Lorenzo Neal played for the Ravens last year . Its like saying , if the Jets wanted a LB they would have kept Barton and not signed Scott.
If completely healthy. Plus I would put Neal in the same category as Trich or maybe even step above. He was the man behind LT's success in SD.
IF healthy... and that's a big if... Tanny is keeping all options open because of the rule that you have to pay a full year salary to a veteran which makes the team on day 1 of reg season... If Richardson isn't 100% he may get cut in favor of Neal wo I don't think has nagging injury problems. One or the other I don't really care... they are both excellent professionals and good veteran FB...
Agreed, but i just don't see us having both of them on the roster. Unless Richardson will be out the door but I cant see that happening either
Yeah, is Richardson still hurt? I didn't really keep tabs on him through TC or preseason that much. I know he was banged up at one point
Again in the type of offense Rex wants to run - power football. It makes a shitload more sense at least to me to carry two Fb's than wasting a roster spot on someone like Woodhead who just doesn't fit this type of offense. I point to the Ravens last year with Neal and Mcclain as a prime example. I don't care which two Fb's we would keep of ( Trich/Neal/Caulcrick) but dept h at FB is more important to this O than a 4th string scatback
I don't think he's hurt as of now, but I'm sure at 38 he needs more time than others to get back to 100%.
