Anyone ever read "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell?

If Gladwell's theory of Thin-Slicing is upheld, than a large sample size is not needed to tell that Gholston is a poor football player (or more-importantly, that he doesn't seem to possess the "potential" for him to ever be a good NFL player).

I'm thin slicing, and on the limited information I have my mental processes tell me he is a big, soft, stiff and there isn't much he can do to change that. We don't need to give him any more time to prove himself in my opinion. He hasn't even shown the slightest glimmer of a flash.

Close the book, and move on.

You're a poor poster, and don't possess the potential to ever be a good poster.

please slip on a banana peel and fall in a lake of fire.....thanks.

  4. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Gholston sucks...he's a bust. We should've drafted Lawrence Taylor instead. The misery of rooting for this franchise never ends. While we're at it Roger Vick sucked and Sanchez is the next Browning Nagle.

don't say Nagle is the same sentence as San....

  6. We could've drafted Montana, Brady and Elway and it still wouldn't matter....the franchise is cursed.

true lets just give up on a guy after one bad rookie year under a pussy coaching staff after 2 preseason games who we've invested MILLIONS of dollars in when we're starting the first 4 games of the season without the guy he plays behind...

    fantastic idea...wow...

Based on Gladwell theories I am in 100% agreement with you. Although I do not accept thin-slicing as an absolute science.

Whatever I have based it on, I have decided to give up hope for VG

I've read the book and it's brilliant stuff. There is a lot of evidence that the human mind has evolved to make quick-fire decisions because sometimes your life might depend on it.

One look at Gholston tells you that he is a player who is lost. I don't know if that means he can't ever find his way and become decent, but some players just give you that vibe.

Right now, he's only on the team because he was a No.6 pick. If he'd been a free agent he would be gone and everyone would be saying "well, what did you expect?" His draft status and contract status are the only reasons he is a New York Jet today.

I'll still hope for a while longer that he can wake up, but Gladwell would probably have cut him in his first training camp!

    Ed Reed over Bryan Thomas

    Warren Sapp over Tom Brady

Haloti Ngata over Jonathan Vilma (yes, I went there)

I think you mean Kyle Brady over Warren Sapp.

Can't second-guess the Vilma trade. The guy was D-ROY. He was a great player until we switched to the 3-4.

Ngata was drfated two years after Vilma, in 2006.

We Choose Brick over him. While in hind Sight Ngata is a better over all player, taking the top rated LT when we had no LT on the roster was a need pick for us that has panned out.

My mistake, just realized that when I went back over the picks.

I still wouldn't pass up Brick over Ngata, when you consider what he's given us thus far.

Yea, I love Ngata as a player and he was exactly what we needed to transition to the 3-4. We just could not do it with the poor state of our O-line at the time.

I was a Ngata homer. Still am. I think he's in the top 3 DTs in the NFL. AND he can slip to DE....not that it's a stretch in the 3-4. Point is, I love the dude. Wish we had him.

in regards to the book, yes, one can argue that "it just doesn't look right" in regards to the ghost.

here's to hoping that in the 4 games pace is suspended, that quick glance changes into something a bit more positive.

I don't really see how this applies. It's not like he was bragging, it's a fairly well known book.
