Well, according to ESPN, after last nights win, Dice-K is on pace to go 20-10 this season. Not bad for a 26 year old rookie. At his current pace, he will finish 20-10 with 235 strikeouts in 225 innings. Goes to show that the Red Sox, Mets, and Yankees were right about Dice-K. All 3 teams placed multi-million dollar postings to negotiate with Dice-K. Pitching in the major leagues should be less of a strain on Dice-K's arm than the Japanese league as he now throws much less between starts. As a high schooler, Dice-K once threw 250 pitches in 17 innings and can currently throw 97mph on the radar gun. He currently cruises at 92-93 mph.
Steve Trachsel is 1-3 with a 3.70 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Dice-BB is 4-2 with a 4.80 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Who is pitching better?
I know you are a very knowledgeable baseball fan. So, you can have Steve Trachsel. I will stick with Dice-K. Its Dice-K's first time thru the major leagues, he is a rookie, pitching in a new country in foreign surroundings.
I agree with you. The guy has talent. He's going to win a lot of games. Yankees fans in general are praying he fails (me included.) The thing is, he's got a lot of talent, and the chances of him failing are small, IMO.
He's had some trouble with walks lately, but it was usually one bad inning each game where he would lose it, and he'd be lights out the rest of the game, other than one of the Yankees starts, against a ridiculous lineup. He faced a very good lineup last night as well and dominated. It was highly encouraging.
IF Trachsel got regular Run support, he could be 15-18 win guy. and you'd have most of your $$$$$ still in the bank.
The Mets were desparate for starting pitching in the off-season and did not want him back for nothing. The guy has no heart. If you are not liked in the Met clubhouse, enough said.
It's a fair thread, given the prior discussion about how he was a washout after six starts. I'd say that Daisuke is good for 15 wins this year. I heard someone mention on sports radio that he seems to lose the plate mostly when he pitches out of the stretch - which, of course, means that men are on base, and it's the worst of all times. I only saw one inning last night, so I didn't get to see if this was correct.
No. The public perception was that the Mets were desperate for starting Pitching. The Mets in fact were only pursuing a number one option. Obviously they felt comfortable with Maine,Perez and Pelfrey at the bottom of the rotation, because with this lineup, Trachsel is EASILY a 15 game winner, and a guy that eats up innings, and allows you to rest the Bullpen. The only problem he had last year was his K to BB ratio being 1 to 1, and less than 80 SO.
Don't you remember that game late in the year when the Met staff was beat up, and Trachsel "took himself" out of the game when he was bruised by a comebacker. Its no accident that was the last time he ever pitched for the Mets.
A low K/BB is one of the biggest signs a pitcher isn't that good. He also gave up over a hit an inning and his WHIP was 1.60. That's awful. This year he has a BABIP of .203, so he's been getting pretty lucky. Interestingly, Maine has a BABIP of .191, so he's very likely to level off.
Trachsel averaged 5.5 IP per start last year, so he hardly ate up innings and gave the bullpen rest. In fact, that was the worst mark of any regular Mets starter (Glavine 6.2, Maine 5.9, Martinez 5.8, Hernandez 5.8). He also averaged 1 HR every 7 IP, which is a joke. He was undoubtedly the luckiest pitcher in major league baseball, had absolutely no upside (he wasn't going to get any better, unlike perhaps people like Perez and Pelfrey), and I don't know a single Mets fan who is sorry that he is gone.
A-Rod is on pace to hit 74 HR and drive in 191 RBI's. There's still alot of season left to be played, don't count your chickens before they hatch.
true...its too early to tell right now...Im still waiting for Arod to go bezerk again with his HR tear
