i really wanna say the under, but these divisional games are so hard to get any type of read on. pretty much i wouldn't be surprised if the jets totally shut it down. i also wouldn't be surprised if it is unstoppable for miami.

Fuck that gay formation. Whether they run for 250 yards or 100 its still a corny way to get yards. They should be ashamed of themselves. Where'd parcells balls go ?

The single wing is smash mouth football. Why should they be ashamed of lining up their biggest players and punching the other team in the mouth?

I think that's what Calvin Pace said right before the Jets lost 1/16th of their season.

If Parcells and Sporano thought that dressing their players up like ballerinas would net them a dozen wins this season, you could be damn sure we'd see 53 Dolphins in tu-tus and leotards on Sunday.

Outside of pulling a Tom Brady and whining for yards after minimal contact, there is no corny, shameful way to gain yards in this league.

BTW, under, WAY under 125 yards. Rex Ryan was made to look like a bad coach that Monday Night. He knows it and everyone in America knows it. We're going to stop the Wildcat, I'm sure of it.

"Trust me, I'll stop your run. Say what you want about me, but if I want to, I'll stop your run."

He wants to. He really, really wants to.

i think the biggest difference is that rex got that smack in the head he needed. I think he started to get a little full of himself and thinking things were to easy. Yeah we just lost to NO but he only allowed the Saints (avg. 37+ points this year) to 10 offensively. Plus he thought he had the notion we destroyed it in the playoffs, we will do it again here...

I think he didnt prepare enough and after the way the defense played he realized it. I would be shocked if at any other point this season if he has a choice between staying 1 extra hour to do one thing, or going home, I think he will stay the extra hour. I have faith Rex will get it done.

While I'll admit the Wildcat is effective and more than a gimmick for Miami's Offense, it's not really smashmouth. A large portion of it is based on deception:
Brown takes the shotgun-snap and either hands it to a motioning Ricky Williams (then runs the opposite way after he hands it off) or fakes it and keeps it himself for the run (as Williams runs the opposite way making it seem like he has the ball).

That's a bit different than lining up in an I/Power I and ramming it down the other team's throat.

So yes, while effective, the Wildcat owes a lot of it's success to deception, which is prolly why so many people think it's a pussy, cheap tactic.

How many teams in the NFL line it up and run it up the middle every play? None. Everyone attcks the inside, outside, off tackle, ect.

The reference to the smash mouth is what happens up front with the big uglies. The use of double teams and pulling Guards and Tackles is the smash mouth part. In order to run the Wildcat successfully, the OL has to be dominant. Without great OL play, the Wildcat fails.

The Saints DL played great against Miami and that is how they stuffed the Wildcat. It truely is smash mouth football. Whoever wins the the trenches (OL or DL) will determine its success.

It's one-on-one blocking with an element of deception and misdirection. So not only do the defenders have to fight off a block every play, but also they have to locate who has the ball. There's really no arguing that.

Miami's secondary is so bad that if we can jump on them early I dont think we will see a lot of WC. However, if we get into a ball control close game we will see a lot of WC and I am not convinced we can stop it. But we should still be able to score on them with the passing game. This game may come down to who has the ball last.

Actually, Miami doubles the point of attack and pulls one or two players into the hole. Most of the Wildcat plays are predetermined before the snap to determine the blocking assignments. The added element is the option Ronnie has to attack the line. If he sees the predetermined blocking assignment is not a good one, he has the option to pick and choose his hole.

So, essentially it is just power football and not as much misdirection as people think.

Totally right. If the Jets can get up by 2 tds quick that will force miami to throw the ball more and stay away from the wc. I think miami showed all their cards in the wc formation last time we played and the Jets and Rex will be ready for it this time.

Half the time we dont even have Ricky motion though.

Like on that 3rd and 6 we gained with Ricky hurdling your defender... we lined Ricky up back there, w/ no Ronnie on the field... and just snapped it to him and ran. No misdirection. Just lined em up, gave the RB the ball, and ran...

We do that a decent percentage of the Wildcat snaps...

The Wildcat is the purest form of smashmouth football possible. Line em up with no real threat of pass and ram it down their throats...

The Saints didnt even stuff it. They stopped it a couple times in the 2nd half. It was successful more times than it wasnt against them... including getting a TD. We just flat out didnt run the ball in the 2nd half against the Saints, Wildcat or traditional...

they stopped it pretty good. We only had about 27 yards out of the Wildcat. The Saints DL beat our OL in the Wildcat formation.
