http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=1921 Patriots released S John Lynch. Lynch, 37, exhibited reduced speed in the preseason and may not resurface. The Pats will go with Brandon Meriweather as their primary backup safety.
No offense but he was chosen over Kerry Rhodes for the Pro Bowl the last 2 years so he must be better. He will resurface somewhere and again beat Kerry out for the pro bowl. I mean nothing shows a player is better then being voted in to that game.................lol
Chad Jackson was also released by NE. He's the superstar WR they drafted in 2006. Can someone post how many players from the last three drafts are even still on the NE roster?
The Pats have built well through the draft. However, they have really dropped the ball when it comes to WR's and CB's recently Here it is below. 6 current starters have come from the draft since 2005. 5 backups have been drafted since 2005. 11 of 53 or 20% of the roster. If you count 2003 and 2004, 10 of 24 starters (incl. kickers) came from those drafts. In fact the Pats have 15 or 24 starters who came through the draft. Offense- Brady, Koppen, Light, Mankins, Kaczur, Watson, Maroney Defense- Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Bruschi, Mayo, Hobbs, Sanders S/T- Gostkowski The numbers become 2007 Rd 1- Brandon Meriweather (on team) Traded the next two picks 4th round and below no keepers 2006 Rd 1- Laurence Maroney (RB) Rd 2- Chad Jackson (released) Rd 3- David thomas (#2 TE) Rd 4- Steven Gostkowski (K) Rd 5- Ryan O'Callaghan (OL IR) Rd 6- LeKevin Smith (DL Backup) Rd 6 & 7- 3 players who didn't make the team 2005 Rd 1- Logan Mankins (OL) Rd 3- Ellis Hobbs (CB) Rd 3- Nick Kaczur (OL) Rd 4- James Sanders (S) Rd 7- Matt Cassel (QB #2) Rd 5 & 7- Two guys who didn't make the team 2003 & 2004 Vince Wilfork Benjamin Watson Ty Warren Assante Samuel Eugene Wilson Dan Koppen Tully Banta Cain
According to Mike Reiss in the Globe, Lynch may not be done with the Pats. I think they are trying to clear the cap room to resign Ty Law. http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/ The Patriots announced today that they released veteran safety John Lynch, and in the press release, included comments from both coach Bill Belichick and Lynch. The comments, especially from Lynch, make it sound as if the move might not be permanent. "I have no regrets about my time thus far with the Patriots," said Lynch. "The immense respect that I've long held for the organization has been only heightened over the past couple of weeks. I am going to keep all options open and look forward with excitement to see what the future brings." The "thus far" part of Lynch's comment seems to indicate this could be a situation where Lynch is not kept on the Patriots' roster for the opening week -- when salaries for veterans would be guaranteed -- before returning to the club after the first game. Head coach Bill Belichick also included a comment in the team's release: "It goes without saying but John is an all-time great safety, one of the league's classiest professionals and his elite play speaks for itself," said Belichick. "As has been the case in other situations, I would not rule anything out down the road."
SAFETY COURSE: Sources said the Jets remain interested in free-agent S John Lynch, who was released Sunday by the Patriots. Many assume Lynch has an agreement with the Patriots to re-sign after Week 1 - that way, his 2008 salary wouldn't be guaranteed - but the Jets are trying to intercept the nine-time Pro Bowler. This is the latest scrap between the two rivals. Surprisingly, Eric Mangini, usually tight-lipped when asked about available players, actually confirmed the team's interest. (A message to Bill Belichick, perhaps?) Mangini said Lynch is on a short list, adding, "It's not a list of one. It's a group of players." Scouts say Lynch, who turns 37 in three weeks, has slowed down considerably. But the Jets apparently have a role in mind for him. They went after him hard in early August, when he was released by the Broncos.
