He admitted using it twice in 2002, in order to recover from those injuries. Certainly a big mistake on his part, but what this also does is confirm pretty much everything that was said about Clemens. One can't be true without the other.
I honestly don't feel any animosity toward guys like Pettitte and Ankiel who used HGH, before it was banned, to recover from injuries. Clemens is still a doucheknocker though.
Huge props? He said if I made a mistake, I apologize. He said he took the HGH to get over his injury and not to get a competitive advantage. How is it that taking something that allows your body to recover faster from injury not a competitive advantage?
You're certainly entitled to believe that, but the the trainer who supplied Pettitte with HGH on those occations said himself that it only took place in that specific period of time. Pettitte and the trainer were together well past just 2002.
Well, this certainly doesn't account for David Justice, Chuck Knoblauch, Roger Clemens etc. I don't really buy the tainted nonsense because it's not like the players were gaining an advantage over the competition because the opponents were doing it too. Certainly it was wrong, and it's cheating the game, but I think the impact it had on the field is diffused by the fact that the players who took the field against them were on the juice as well.
I admire Andy Pettitte for admitting its use. And I think most reasonable people will understand it. It certainly adds IMMENSE credibility to the Mitchell report...NOW...let hear Clemens statement - besides his stupid lawyer's denial.
This is why so many Yankee haters including myself have respect for a guy like Pettite. He;s always been a standup guy and now his name is mentioned as a juicer and he didn't run and hide. Even though he is a cheat I'll always like the guy.
Glad I'm not the only Met fan to also be a fan of Pettitte. His stare down from behind the glove was always so badass. Only Papelbon does it as well.
I just think of the guy on the Jim Rome show describing Andy Pettitte: "mouth agape with the eyes of a goat" "staring like he's trying to burn a hole through Jorge's eyebrows" edit: found the audio http://www.archive.org/details/OneAndrewPettite-JimInFallRiver
This is an interesting argument that is developing: performance enhancement vs. rehabilitation use. Is Pettitte as guilty as Bonds or Clemens if he was easily able to get something to save his career? I don't know, but I do give him credit for being a man and admitting what he did. Do we crucify him for that? Let's be real...Pettitte's admission is more than you'll get from most guys on that list. I think we have to look at the intent and motivation of the individual. This list is too large to paint everyone with the same brush stroke. If everyone is taking performance drugs of some sort, maybe you need to take performance drugs too in order to level the playing field. I'm not saying it's right or that I condone that behavior. I'm just saying that we need to take all of the individual's circumstances into account when judging their behavior.
well said. there are definitely varying degrees of use and guilt throughout this list and among all the others not named on the list
