I for one had this guy on my draft board. Its early, but this really isnt the kind of stuff you want to hear about a first rounder ---- we all remember ours from the 2008 draft. Rotoworld; Browns first-round NT Phil Taylor is "coming along slowly" in training camp. According to beat writer Steve Doerschuk, Taylor's hustle has been "suspect" and he's been "ordinary" in two preseason games. Browns coaches are exercising patience, as there are no viable alternatives on the roster. Source: AOL.SportingNews.com Aug 25 - 2:47 PM
He's a fat fuck. We got basically the same player with better height and similar athleticism in the third round.
...don't get ahead of yourself. We won't know the answer to that for a few years. Taylor is a talented player. Both he and Ellis had big time character concerns coming out - in my opinion, if they both had a clean slate, Ellis is the better prospect. His off the field issues scared a lot of teams.
all of these are exactly the reasons why so many people, myself included felt that Taylor was not worth a first round pick, and might not be able to make it. Ellis needs tons of work on his technique, but he has a non-stop motor, and thats one thing taylor was never accused of. Glad we have Ellis here in NY.
Never wanted Taylor, he came off as overrated like Dan Williams did the previous year. I felt like his value ballooned more because of the scarcity at his position than him being worthy of being a 1st Rounder...
so does Kenrick Ellis... and people rave about the kids motor. I still stand by my take that Taylor was never worthy of a round 1 pick. But teams pushed his "value" up the board due strictly to need and the fact there literally was no one else. Magilla probably said it better, but I just dont think he was round 1 material. If I had to guess, and this is going off the situations both kids are in, coupled with my pre-draft reads of them, I think that Kenrick Ellis will have a much better career than Phil Taylor does. Please note: I'm not talking about year 1 or even year 2, but over the course of their entire careers, Ellis will prove to be the better player, by a landslide. Taylor is much more "ready" to contribute early, but once they reach their ceilings, Ellis will be far and away better.
Liked his size, workout numbers and other tangibles. Didn't like 1. his production 2. his heart 3. his motor. I'm glad Jets didn't draft this fat tub of lard back in April.
