As we all know, we are going to need to be huge players in the free agent market this year. Here is a list of the top free agents for every position: Quarterback Mark Sanchez Brian Hoyer Christian Ponder Michael Vick Jake Locker Shaun Hill Running Backs DeMarco Murray (Pipe Dream) Justin Forsett Knowshon Moreno Mark Ingram Shane Vareen Ryan Matthews Darren McFadden Frank Gore Wide Receivers Dez Bryant (Pipe Dream) Demaryius Thomas Reggie Wayne Randall Cobb Michael Crabtree Jeremy Maclin Tight Ends Jermaine Gresham Owen Daniels Jordan Cameron Charles Clay Julius Thomas (Pipe Dream) Offensive Lineman Doug Free Bryan Bulaga Michael Roos Stefen Wisiniewski Linebackers Lance Briggs Brooks Reed Justin Houston Jason Worilds Brandon Graham Malcolm Smith Brian Orakpo Brandon Spikes Rey Maualuga Rolando McClain David Harris Mason Foster Cornerback Antonio Cromartie Darelle Revis Tramon Williams Brandon Flowers Byron Maxwell Safeties Louis Delmas Devin McCourty Antrel Rolle Charles Woodson Will Allen I think we are in a pretty good position for these guys. A lot of talent here at positions we desperately need. With a good draft and some nice pickups, we could definitely be in business in 2015.
It all depends on what we do in the draft honestly. If a QB slips to us, we aren't going after any of the guys mentioned. If we draft Cooper, we aren't spending big money on a big time WR (although Crabtree I could see coming on the cheap). If we draft Gregory then we aren't going to look for much LB help in free agency. I know this isn't a fantasy offseason thread but here's the most realistic scenario that I would be ok with: Draft Gregory Sign Crabtree Trade for Cousins or Mettenberger Sign Flowers This is on top of bringing back David Harris and giving Mo what ever dollar amount he wants. We would preserve some money to roll over into next year which we have to think about because in 2016, free agents include: Julio Jones AJ Green Von Miller Marcell Dareus Nate Solder Anthony Castonzo Ryan Kerrigan Russell Okung Cameron Jordan Cameron Heyward Michael Floyd
Murray will get locked up by Dallas or they are fools. He is Hall of Fame Running back talent. I like Moreno, think he is a solid back to complement Ivory and Powell Just about all those wide receivers would be a great addition to the team save maybe Reggie Wayne (how old is he now? rather go with a younger vet). I like D. Thomas, I expect he will be resigned by the Broncos though. We have to make a splash on OL in Free Agency. Maybe the biggest glaring weakness save QB and possibly a major reason why QB is such a weakness. I thought Harris had a great season. I know you guys all hate him in coverage, but the guy knows the defense better than anyone, he always delivers the hit and he just has a fine nose for the football. LB looks to be the quickest position that could unravel for our defense. Major concern if we let the LB position slip away. Should be addressed in earnest. Fuck Revis. Cro is old (maybe a cheap vet deal), youth movement, pray Milliner is 1st round talent. The position has become the diva of the NFL. Over paid and over valued. Hate to see us dump money on a flashy free agent. Offense should be the focal point of the off season. On defense I would address linebacker, shore it up and we can be a top 5 run defense again. Secondary we are going to need some of these young guys to start to emerge. I really don't want us getting caught up in the media frenzy of an overblown diva position of the defense.
without a coach its hard to know what to do on defense if your gonna keep the defensive system rex ran in place then revis and cromartie are natural targets but if your gonna switch the scheme then it all depends
The problem is that free agency is a month and a half before the draft. Most of the free agent pool is swallowed up within a week of it opening, which is in early march. We can't afford to wait and see what happens in the draft, we have to be bold and swift in that first week (luckily John the Glacier is gone).
Man, I had basketball on the mind. You're definitely right. Either way, I wouldn't mind if that scenario I listed played out.
Could not have said this any better " Fuck Revis, Cro is old (maybe a cheap vet deal), youth movement, pray Milliner is 1st round talent" AND for the past WHAT 5 or 6 years have we done anything through the draft to help this offensive line. Need to spend some money in FA on some beefy Tackles
What about Louis Delmas or Antrel Rolle if the Giants don't resign him,we could use a revamped saftey core,Crabtree or Cobb is intresting at WR to.I see David Harris following Rex if he gets a new job so if that happens we are gonna need one of those linebackers maybe Orakpoo or Lance Briggs
I like Hoyer or Shaun Hill at Qb. And Charles Clay. No way the new GM doesn't sign a corner after all the flack coming from last season. Not a whole lot available.
Justin Houston had 22 sacks this guys a beast we should go all in on this guy,he's gonna get a major payday from someone
Our needs are o-line, cb and qb. We need to get good and young at those positions... except QB, where we could go with a solid older vet. With a good o-line, an average QB (Geno) could be serviceable, or good enough to evaluate the rest of our offence going forward. It also gives us a couple of drafts and FA to see who will be available. Good people in the FO and sidelines may speed up the turn around of the Jets. These will be our most important pick ups.
LB should be addressed with Harris on free agency and pace a year older. Run d was nice this year, wouldn't want to see that slip away by ignoring LB. OL is the focus though.
The thing is (to me) you don't give a boat load of cash to guys who aren't that good. This brings you back to cap purgatory. I'd rather trade for somebody good.
Mike Iupati is available also. Him, Maxwell and Vereen would make me very satisfied if they were brought in.
Well 40 Mil is nothing to sneeze at, But I did post those available in another thread and what they may be looking for. We would just need one and PRAY Millner makes it on the field next near. Even if Dee Milliner is healthy, the Jets will be in the market for at least one starting outside cornerback who can compete with Marcus Williams for the starting job. B/R Antonio Cromartie Could a reunion between Cromartie and the Jets happen? It may not be as crazy as it sounds. His best years are behind him at age 30, but he proved the Jets wrong from a health standpoint by starting in all 16 games for the Arizona Cardinals this season. He even looked pretty good doing it. He allowed just two touchdown passes all year, according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required). The rebuilding Jets may not be the ideal landing place for a veteran like Cromartie, but if the price is right, he can at least stop the bleeding at a position that needs immediate help. Tramon Williams One of the top cornerbacks on the market in a thin class, Tramon Williams is not going to be cheap—but if any team is in desperate need for a starting outside cornerback with the cash on hand to afford him, it is the Jets. Byron Maxwell Byron Maxwell may be the least-known member of the Legion of Boom, but the Seattle Seahawk offers a lot in terms of sheer size (6'1", 207 lbs) and length. His status as a No. 2 cornerback limits his price, making him a nice fallback option in case the Jets miss out on a player like Williams. Kareem Jackson The former first-round pick out of Alabama had a rough first few seasons as a pro, but Kareem Jackson has finally settled into his role as a starting cornerback for the Houston Texans as of late. The 10th-ranked cornerback on Pro Football Focus is having his best season just in time for a new contract—enough so to make a buyer beware of investing heavily in a player who only appears to play well when a contract is on the line.
I'd rather overpay Demaryous Thomas than any of those other guys. But the 2 Qbs, Hill or Hoyer would be good fits for the Jets. Both capable of starting and you can get them for under five.
Definitely rather pay a blue collar worker like Thomas than dump on a diva corner. With our front being as strong as it is, we don't "need" a star studded cast in secondary/corner. We need some young hungry kids that want to ball, that want a starting position on NFL football team; New York City football team. LB is far more important to shore up than one of these flashy corners.
