Does anyone think that he will be allowed to wear some sort of prosthetic device on the field? He's basically a trailblazer as far as a player missing part of his body in the NFL. We've seen players with injuries use casts and braces as clubs to give them an advantage. Will this guy be afforded a chance to augment his handicap? I'm not talking about some club like weapon, but maybe something that allows him to extend the facsimile of a hand?
He seems like the type to not want any sort of special treatment. Seems completely content to prove doubters wrong. Like the kid and would love to see him succeed.
It's a very interesting question. He'll probably have to be fitted with something one way or the other to prevent injury. Then again, he can stab people. It's a toss up. I saw great pictures of him visiting kids with limb deformities. Not the usual crap. This little girl said, "I love you." Now I'm not a Sappy Sally, but it got me right down in here (Ed Norton style).
Great post. Was actually thinking the same when he got drafted. My take is that I think the lack of a hand made him develop his wrap up technique to a superior level. They may tape him up, but I think adding something “unnatural” to an approach he’s taken his whole life would be a setback.
either way, I'll be rooting for this kid hard...... one of the few parts of the later rounds I really caught (I spent most of that day under a cabinet installing a sink and faucet with the draft on in the background)..... If I was capable of crying, I would've shed a tear or two
He didn't wear a prosthetic in college did he? The only time I recall seeing him with a prosthetic was during the bench press at the combine.
I've seen a handful of videos/interviews with Griffin. I honestly can't see him flunking out of the league. His 'disability' is what motivated him to a whole other level. He wants it. He wants it bad. Can't help but cheer him on. I'm a sucker for stories like this. I hate the human race for the most part, but every once in a while, something life-affirming about the human spirit comes along. I wish Griffin the best of luck. Just not against the Jets, lol. If we were playing the Seahawks this year and they were fielding him, I wouldn't feel conflicted at all if the Jets were already blowing pineapple chunks, especially if the game didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.
