As excited as we all are to see Sanchez's progress next year, I am equally looking forward to Shonn Greene as the #1 RB. I love his punishing style and we all have seen he can dominate behind our o-line. He was a fresh change of pace to TJ's dancing beind the line and taking forever to hit a hole. I think TJ was a product of a good system more than he was a good runningback. There are a couple questions surrounding Greene coming into the season. Can he stay healthy? How many carries will LT get? Im not worried. Hes gonna be a monster this year.
...and can Greene hang on to the ball. That was another factor leading to reduced playing time in the regular season. I LOVE LOVE LOVE his running style. If he can hold on to the ball better and stay healthy he's gonna be a big deal in this league.
Greene held onto the ball well in college and I don't recall many fumbles in those last 5 or 6 games. they were all early.
The fumbles came in weeks 8, 12, and 14. They were all on the late side of the season. He did much better in the playoffs and needs to continue that forward, but 3 fumbles in 108 carries is not exactly good.
Yes he did, check out highlight reels of him early on and in the latter part of the season. He keeps the ball tight to his chest and in traffic uses two hands, easy cure.
yeah i remember in a presser rex ryan said shonn greene had been putting elmers glue on his chest to protect the football hahah.
Greene really only started getting more carries in those weeks. In the playoffs I dont recall him fumbling once.
Yep, but he learnt from it and was flawless in the playoffs. Can't expect perfection from a rookie can you?
Only problem I have with the Shonnmower is his ability to take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. So far he sux at it. Hopefully he learns how to get hit in the offseason.
It's not good, no. But he didn't fumble at Iowa. And remember, he had 7 carries in 6 weeks before Leon got hurt, so that was fairly late in the season, but very early in his career. Still something he has to fix though.
with his ribs and ankle(?) injuries that he keeps re-injuring due to his physical running style is what I think moose is talking about. he's going to knock people over, but it hurts him just as much. If he learns to do what Bettis did, he'll have a healthier, longer career.
He had no fumbling issues at Iowa or down the stretch for us last season. That "concern" should no longer be a concern. The only concern with Greene is can he stay healthy? Losing him on the first play of the 2nd half of the AFC Championship Game KILLED us. Besides our Secondary falling to pieces, his 2nd half absence was reason 1B why we lost that game. If he stays healthy, he's going to wreak havoc on defenses for years to come. He has the build and power to take the rock at least 250 times a year and make any defender pay who dare trys to take him down.
I don't get the questions about Greene. The ravens went through a similar transition last year with ray rice. He was a college star, late 2nd round pick, had a fumbling problem early his rookie year, and started to come on at the end of the year but hadn't proven he could carry the load sounds a lot like greene coming into his second year (first pick in the 3rd instead of late second), but I don't remember people making a big deal about the ravens transition ... Greene will be fine
