We're in danger of losing a great head coach, and a defensive mastermind, because this offense is a sinking ship! Any unbiased NFL analyst will tell you Rex is a good HC; how he managed to get an offense with Mark Sanchez, Shonn Greene, and mediocre WRs to a pair of AFC championship games, with a rookie and 2nd year Sanchez no less, is probably the best coaching job in the history of the NFL! But he can't hire a decent OC if his life depended on it, and we're in danger of losing the best HC we've ever had (and that includes Parcells; Rex has already topped the Big Tuna 2 AFC title games to one after all, and with less talent.) On MNF, the announcers were baffled by the Jets' stupidity on offense: Tirico: "Jets do so much on offense, you wonder, where do they hang their hat? What is the base of what they do?" Gruden: (a brilliant offensive coach) "I don't know." Enough said....Morningweg needs to go pronto, or this will soon be a lost season I'm afraid! (later, one of them commented that too much smoke and mirrors can hurt you, after another stupid gimmick formation drew a flag)
Chip Kelly asked Gruden to be Oregon's offensive coordinator. If he didn't want to work for Kelly why would he work for Rex.
did you just cite Tirico and Gruden as proof for your position to fire MM? lol, there is nothing wrong with Marty as an OC. i'd like to see him simplify the offense some, but that is just because Geno still hasn't put it all together yet. makes it more challenging for the coach, but i'm confident he is a coach Geno can grow with.
The offense gets too cute and complicated when were trailing. Marty is a good OC but he's just not working with the same type of weapons as he had in Philly. We dont have anything close to DJax or McCoy and Decker might be Maclin's replica. The ground and pound route works if you use it. Ivory was running well last night and so was Powell (in the 2 carries they gave him). I just dont get why some OC's seem to panic when the team is trailing. Its like the entire gameplan changes.
Marty has been really good imo, he understands how balance the pass/run plays. Remember the days of Schotty? 2012 in New England we would have MULTIPLE plays where we needed to pick up like 6 or 7 yards and Schotty was running plays where no receiver was even go more than 5 yards out?
There's a reason they have to be cute because they still don't have the skill position guys to beat based upon that. It's almost like Marty is trying to out-cute the defense. But think about it, the Jets have upgraded the WR corps with Decker, but they still don't have a guy to stretch the field yet. Kerley is the most reliable guy for Geno and he's a possession type guy more than anything. You would think either you get a guy who's tall and huge would help or someone with speed. That means either Amaro or Saunders out of what the Jets have now need to fill that void or something. (leaning more towards Amaro because he's actually getting SOME PT).
I thought the mods were going to do something about minimum posts to start threads. Gotta put that at over 186. _
Ray Lucas and company, on "Jets Extra Point" (SNY), were also bashing Marty M's playcalling. Morningweg calls plays like I do when I'm playing Madden (and I suck at Madden!)....you know, just groping around for plays seemingly randomly, lots of gimmicky plays that never work, with no real strategy. Everyone sees it, not everyone is ready to admit it. ...maybe his worst call of them all - that bizarre designed run by Geno in the red zone, when Ivory was slicing and dicing the Bears...instead of pounding Ivory, let's send our skinny QB into the teeth of the Bears D, that seems like a good way to go! (smh) How anyone can try to defend Marty at this point is beyond me!
I live in Central PA and work with a lot of Philly fans. Now we all know fans are the dumbest people on earth and have no idea how to judge talent. They believe their lying eyes before they believe stats. I've been told over and over that although MM was loved in the beginning, his playcalling started to wear a bit thin near the end of his run there. People were definitely happy to see him go with the Andy Reid departure. I'm sure the stats say the exact opposite but as some of us believe, numbers sometimes can be deceiving. They mostly refer to MM as being pass happy. So far from what my lying eyes have seen, I can't argue. I guess its the WHEN passes are called instead of how many over the course of a game. Strange thing is, they never referred to MM as being too cute. Perhaps he got infected with the cute virus somewhere along I-95N. I see things now that I had hoped left town with our previous genius OC. Oh well, its only year 2. Maybe MM will be cured of the cuteness virus before Rex gets walked. Their fates are indeed linked.
He made some bad calls for sure, but it isnt like he threw a pick 6 and a red zone interception. All fans hate their Offensive Coordinator. They're the number 1 scapegoat at all times. When was the last time the Jets had an offensive coordinator that was universally loved. I cant remember one in my lifetime.
