Is tanking something that is viable for the Jets to do here?

Many teams do it in other leagues to get a chance at the top pick...However this upcoming draft looks like ass at the top. No Mariota this year for us to chase...

As a 3-7 team, do you still want your team to pull off wins for confidence or just go all in and lose so major changes and great draft positioning comes into play.

Ideally I don't care if we go 8-8 if Petty or Hackenburg are the reason we get there...But if we grinding out ugly wins then I see little reason other then for those ticket holders (like myself) who would like to leave the stadium in a good mood.

I'm not a fan of tanking, however I did vote for it. We should let Petty play out and maybe toss Hack's in there the final half of the last game of the season. This is more or less tantamount to tanking at this point. Might as well find out what we have in the kids.

I voted no, because the jets already believe they have their QB in Hack. Unless there is a stud LT that they must have then I would consider changing my vote.

Just hope this FO and CS play out the rest of the season to see what they have in Petty.

At this point they need to see how these young QBs can play...Fitzpatrick is literally going to be waste of snaps now and will go back to being a backup somewhere else next year

We don't have a f'n clue HOW to tank. We'll go win games just to say we won and knock ourselves out of the top 5 pick. Now given the Jet's 1st round drafts, I don't really think tanking will help much because we don't draft for need anyway and would probably stockpile at a position we already have a surplus in. If I had any confidence in the FO/CS, I'd say yeah, tank the shit out of this season, play Petty and Hack and see if you need to draft another QB in the top 5.

But you know they will pull out some wins just to get us to 5-11 or 6-10 or 7-9.

All terrible scenarios...No one likes drafting in the middle of the rounds :(

As sad as this sounds, I see only 1 more winnable game this year ... against the 49ers. Only other game I can see us winning is the Colts and well with our secondary I don't see that happening.

I'm not a fan of tanking but I don't want to win enough to start Fitz in every game.

Even if you have, or think you have, your qb, its better to be drafting at the top then the middle. once you are out of playoff contention winning games is hurting the franchise

I was about to post something similar to this. 6 games left. Patriots twice (2 losses), Dolphins (Loss), Bills (Loss), Colts (Loss), 49ers (Toss up). That is how low I think of the Jets right now. (5-11) tops. Not sure where the 2 wins would come from though. They are that pathetic.

    The Jets already tanked.

Is the OP presuming if the Jets "tried", they could actually win games?

The Jets need OL OL OL OL OL OL CB CB CB CB CB in the draft.

I agree about Fitzpatrick, I don't want him to start, heck I didn't want him back in the first place. I'm on board with Petty finishing out the season. Let the youngsters play. My other issue with focusing strictly on the record is the way you get there, for example, what if the jets decide to give the younger players more opportunities and they actually do well enough to win some games.

That core of young players, while hurting your draft standing has also eliminated the need to sign someone in FA or draft someone for that position, because you can develope what you have.

They need offensive line help badly, but I feel the jets other problem is they need a new OC, DC on the CS.

That's what I believe they should focus on regardless of their record.

I'm all for giving our young players a look with an eye towards next year's roster, but I don't think we should ever purposely lose.

Play the young guys, but never root for losses. So my answer is no tanking!

I think the tank is in great shape. We have the 5th pick at 3-7 and our friends in New England will usher us to at least 9 losses. We have a west coast trip sandwiched by 2 short weeks and 2 other divisional games. The teams on our tail (Colts, Charger, Bengals) are all decent teams that are underachieving so they should clear up. I feel good about a top 5 pick, which is weird because it was so hard to get one in 2014 when we were atrocious.

Pretty much this. Let the young kids play and try to win the game. But if we are going to start Fitzpatrick and not gonna see any young blood in the name of not tanking, then I am all for a tank.

    Let the young guys play.
