I think i might like him. He is known as an offensive genius, which we will need to fix our O. As long as he brings a "hot" D- coordinator He is a winner, and will also add stability, and credibility. He makes stars out of every RB he has. Imagine what he could do with Jones and Washington! I think he may be worth a shot.
I'm liking him more and more. The Broncos have been competitve as long as he has been Head Coach, and I want to be in the race every year.
I'll copy and paste my Shanahan post from the other thread since there are multiple threads flying here. Peter King was on with Joe Beningo just now and here's what King said about Shanahan: "King is saying that Shanahan is a great fit for the Jets... "VERY competitive." Beningo is asking King if the Jets need an experienced guy... Shanahan over Spags, for example. King said he doesn't agree.. look at Sparano in Miami, for example. But King also points out the Shanhan has a great record against the Patriots... something like 8-3 or somewhere in there, if memory serves as to the conversation. He said that Shanahan is also a good fit with Favre for now, with the West Coast Offense... thinks Favre would be fine with a coach like Shanahan. He points out that Shanahan "has a lot of fire" and his firing will only "ignite the fire even more," because he'll want to go out and prove that Denver made a big mistake in firing him. King said Shanahan "loves to work 20-hour days"... he just loves to coach and prepare so much."
I'm leary of Shanahan. I think he needs a year or two off. If I'm the Jets, I STILL have the full court press on Cowher.
I think he has everything Woody wants. He is a big name, Known commodity, Proven winner, FIRE! I think he can generate the excitement Woody wants, to sell PSL's
Fuck the PSLs, he'll be the first big name coach for the Jets since Parcells. Nothing wrong with that!
I invested too much into the Cowher thing, emotionally, so I'm stepping back now and letting it take it's course. I fell into the trap. Again. More fool me.
Here's what will happen if we go with Shanahan. Switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense, possible 1-2 years struggling with mismatched personnel (Pace and Thomas both suck balls as edge rushers, probably Gholston too, and Ellis up there in years, his 5th different defense with the Jets) and we give up a shitload of points... Switch from whatever the hell offense we have to the WCO, added woes of switching blocking schemes to zone blocking and the learning curve and personnel mismatch involved with that blocking scheme, possible 2-3 year learning curve, injured QBs and massive turnovers... Fans will be calling for Shanahan's head in 2010.
1 playoff win since 98 fellas. Plus he's a dirty coach. His run blocking schemes are borderline chop blocks and he had his players fake injuries to slow down the Jets momentum in the game against us this year. In my opinion Shanahan has been riding the success of John Elway for the past 10 years.
Shanahan is a tool. Without Elway he would have no legacy. I don't want to wait 3-4 years for Shanahan to change everything. My vote goes to Rex Ryan as long as he brings an experienced OC with him.
Bringing in Shanahan would require retooling the Running game and the defense. Brick is really the only O-Lineman we have that would fit Shanahan's zone scheme, although it would turn Leon into a statistical beast once all of the players are in place. Personally, I think a little Marty Ball would be highly advantageous for us at this point. Give us a power running game, maybe grab another HB just to split the carries, and all of a sudden we have a very good environment to develop a young QB. Look at how Rivers developed under Schottenheimer.
I agree w/ alot o that BUT let's not forget Elway never won a SB w/o Shanahan. As long as Shanahan isn't picking the players he wouldn't be the worst choice.
I don't think I ever did, but if you can find an occasion where I was so stoned and reckless as to predict a rookie HC could take us to the Super Bowl without ever seeing him coach a full season, more power to you. In fact, since you're into looking back to 2006, here was my initial thought process going into Mangini's first season: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=233042&postcount=3 I was wrong about him, but that was because he was an unknown. Shanahan is far from an unknown.
